I know this may have been asked a thousand times but..

I am living in Fribourg and have moved over from Ireland. My stuff recently arrived along with my sky box and I arranged to pruchase a LNB and meter reader back home.

I bought the 78cm dish in Mediamkt today and have spent all day trying to set it up. I have used dishpointer and other to have the correct angles and not one indictaion comes up on my sky box

Should I be doing something with my sky box to lock it in?

would the LNB be at fault?

Do you have a clear line-of-sight to the sky in the direction you are pointing? Can you get other satellites? Try to see if you can get 13° Hotbird or 19°Astra as those are the German-speaking satellites which have a strong footprint in Switzerland. The satellite with the UK channels (Astra 28°) is not as strong here in Switzerland. I am getting all 3 of these in Bern, and 28° is the hardest for me to get, altho I am getting 28° on a 60cm dish I lose some channels in bad weather and plan to upgrade to a 78cm dish to compensate.

Also, I'm not familiar with Sky exactly, but the box you brought is a satellite box (DVB-S) and not just a cable TV box (DVB-C) right?

Back when I used Sky I had a similar situation with a digibox. Bought the meter, had the coordinates, had a clear line of sight and tried to save a few CHFies and do a DIY job. Digital boxes are touchy and not nearly as forgiving as the analog boxes, you're either locked on or not.

If you've got the line of sight and everything else is set where it should work keep trying. I ended up getting someone who did that for a living, charged me less as all he had to do was the alignment and not the full installation

Yes, but did Dishpointer tell you if anything was in the way of the receiver? You need line of sight and the clearer the better. Also check that you've changed the transponder to pick up the southern beam.

Failing that you could try asking nicely in Fust. We bought our new dish and LMB there when we moved recently and had them do the installation for us. If you ask, they might agree to send someone to line it up for you for a small fee.

What's your LNB?? MediaMarkt don't normally sell the best stuff. As a minimum you'll need a 0.2 or 0.3db one.

I'm just 10km down the road and receive 13, 19 and 28E with no problems.

We got a 0.3db for our new one and we're only around 8 to 10 kms from Fribourg as well.

Are you getting any sort of signal at all? Silly question, but have you put the SKY card in the box?

It's very easy to miss what you're aiming at for satellites sometimes. Our old dish used to shift now and again and it only needed the slightest movement the wrong way to lose everything. You need to be able to see your box's signal test screen so you can see what signal strength you're getting and when the lock says OK.
