How to watch American Football and 2012 Superbowl

An American friend is coming to Basel for the next few weeks.

Does anyone know a public place to watch the American football games? A bar somewhere perhaps?

If not, is there a website that replay them somehow?

Thanks in advance,
Yngwie M

We usually watch the games online--my husband has several different websites. Try Sports Zone, Links on Yahoo, or just a search for "free NFL online". Good luck!

if he wants to watch the game live best to get a cable package... ( and take a nap that afternoon )

the game probably won't be starting before 8:00pm on the East Coast

add 6 hrs for the time zones...

I watch over the internet with a subscription to the NFL internet version of Direct TV's NFL Sunday ticket. They're offering now a $30 USD package for the remaining post season including the Superbowl.

https://gamepass.nfl.com/nflgp/secure/packages

For the regular season subscription you can watch any game on all days played live, just like the Sunday Ticket package I used to have when I lived in the US.

How to watch it on your TV. I have a Mac Mini with an HDMI output run into the flatscreen. If you have a standard laptop or pc there are adaptors available to go from multi din plug to HDMI. Mac's without HDMI output have an adaptor to go from the mini-display to HDMI.
Without an HDMI output you'll need to hook up PC speakers to get a decent sound level, or buy an audio cable to run a single mini audio line out from the headphone jack on the pc to L/R standard audio input to your stereo as the laptops speakers normally don't do much for people watching in a living room. (Media Mart sells the cables and adaptor plugs)

ESPN America shows it live, but there should be sports bars around where you can watch. The Pickwick in Zug offers it, but you should register for the event.

I can second the idea from Dantesheaven. I have used NFL GamePass for the entire season and I love it. You can watch any game both live or after the game. They have an awesome condensed game option for after the game where it only shows game action. When the whistle blows, it jumps right to the next snap. The whole season was 249, which is worth it. I would say your internet speed would need to be able to download at least 8MPS or it will give you a grainy picture.

Not too sure about Basel but in Zurich the Marriot usually organise a public viewing or there is the pickwick bars that also stay open late to show it - I think there is one in Basel.

I can understand the GamePass if you are interested in a certain team and want to watch all season long, but for just the Superbowl - don't all cable plans have ESPN America?

The kick-off is actually at 6:30 EST, so you don't have to stay up quite as late as say, a world series game

It's not included in our basic package, we pay extra for it.

Got'cha. We have the all-in-one package with phone/internet/and tv so I never studied what was included in the lower packages!

If you don't mind watching it in German, and if you get Sat. 1 (I think that is in the basic cable packages), they are apparently carrying it this year.

Find a friend with a Slingbox and go to their house.
