Hi EF'ers,

I heard over the weekend that Sunrise has launched a NEW TV service to compete with Cablecom and SwissCom.

It's a eye watering 125CHF per month (Offer: 115CHF for the 1 year) and from what I could see, it is only available as a package and not stand-alone (mind you, I would probably switch my whole lot). Also, it looks like I'll need to fork-out another 90CHF for an electrician to come round and configure something.

It also includes more channels and HD programs (guess that's why the price is so high). However, I'm sure, if I add these additional programs onto my current Cablecom package, it will not be far off.

Has anyone subscribed to the service yet? Is it any good? Whats the set-top box like (surely better than the pathetic UPC Cablecom HD box I currently have)? and finally; is it worth it?

in my opinion it's way too expensive. it's only justified if you need the highest speed internet access, use a landline extensively and want to be able to watch most of the 150+ channels.

If TV is your main interest, i would highly recommend looking into a satellite dish. there are some models that look nothing like a dish (in case your landlord doesn't allow them) and you get access to many good channels for free including HD. Actually, most of the channels from cablecom or swisscomtv are available for free on sat. You can also choose your set top box and there are some great ones on the market.

Seems far too expensive to me too. Comparing it to Cablecoms most expensive offer (for 100CHF), it looks weak. Broadband is a 1/5 of the speed...

It's around the same price as Swisscom's similar package. That's pretty much the same thing as saying it's overpriced

Sunrise TV? Let me think why I would want that:

- more expensive than any other method of getting TV, internet and land line

- support that make cablecom look positively efficient, kind and understanding

- oh, and just for expats website, bills, support and communication in German, French or Italian

We have a basic Sunrise package as part of our rent (analogue, no digital box etc.)
We returned from vacation to find out that the number of channels dropped from 50 to 38. Most noticeable is KIKA, which our kids like to watch.

From a quick glance at the sunrise website, I couldn't see any notification regarding the basic package. Most of the content is promoting their new HD/Digital package at 125CHF/month.

Has anyone else heard about this?

And remember: it's deliver over steam-powered DSL

On anything DSL, TV hogs the Internet bandwidth

On a cable network, you can have multiple 100Mbit/s connections and multiple TVs all watching different HDTV channels all at the same time, with no loss of performance...

As far as speed goes Cablecom is on top and until Swisscom gets their Glasfaser in all homes then we can't expect to much.
