I was going to start my xbox 360 and the 3 darned red lights start flashing...

does it worth while sending for repair or getting a nex xbox???

xbox bought in 2008, so out of warranty...

Check the power brick, What colour light is showing? Green, Red, Orange or not lit?

Unplug everything and then re attach it all making sure all the connections are secure.

power is green. unplug left to cool a couple of hours... still the same...

Well it'll be cheaper to get it serviced. The Xbox website says it is about £60 if you submit a service request online. I did it once in Switzerland but my one was under warranty so am not sure what the cost would have been.

Mine had that. It's 80chf if you go through the online support system at Xbox.com to get it fixed; they'll send you the box to mail it in and everything.

That said, it was 300 chf to get a seriously upgraded one with kinect and a few games, so that's the option I chose.

You can fix it yourself, it's not that hard just a bit tricky. Basically all that happens is the compound between the heatsink and the cpu/gpu dries up and doesn't work - so the chips overheat. The motherboard protects the chips so you get the ROD. The compound paste cost about 10chf.

I've went a bit mad and placed mine in a special case www.silentxbox.com to make the Xbox super quiet (but this was way before the latest quieter version came out). It still works perfectly after a year.

Just admit defeat and buy a PS3
