Hello all!

I'm going to move to a new apartment in Zug very soon and I'm considering different companies for the supply of Internet.

This is the story: I only need internet connection - no phone, no tv - but it must be a good connection as I use Skype very often to talk to my family and friends in my home country.

I'm currently using Swisscom, which is working really good, but since I'll be moving away, I need to get a new abonnement as my roomate wants to keep the phone number. The problem with Swisscom, is that to get an internet abonnement, I also need to pay a telephone line, which ends up being very expensive.

So, the best companies I could find so far are Sunrise and WWZ. Both are offering fast connections and cheap prices, but I've heard terrible stories about using Skype with Sunrise.

Could anyone give me an advise of which company should I go for to have a good Skype connection?

Be it Skype, VOIP etc., all you need is a decent internet connection - choose what fits your budget either from Cable ( WWZ for example ) or ADSL ( Sunrise ).

Well, Sunrise is offering 10mb for almost the same price of WWZ for 3 mb. But I wanted to make sure Sunrise really works because I've read very bad comments about Sunrise's Internet and I don't want to get caught in a year contract for an Internet that doesn't really work!

Do you have/need a mobile phone connection? If so, with Swisscom you can avoid the telephone line rental charge. Look for the DSL and Natel Pro package. Ok, it's no good if you already have, or don't need a mobile connection.

From a technological point of view, BOTH will work fine. you have read the fine prints and decide which is financially better for you. Ensure that your new / future place has either the Cable socket ( WWZ ) or a phone socket for ADSL.

I already have mobile internet with Sunrise..that's why Sunrise it's very convenient for me

The new apartment has a WWZ connection, which means that I will have to hire an electricician, but in any case, Sunrise is still cheaper than WWZ because of the price of the wireless router (Sunrise: 79 / WWZ: 179)

I have sunrise click and call 15000, the skype quality is awful... changing the provider now

I have Sunrise for landline and internet, and it seems to function as it should.
The Zyxel WLAN router they provided works without problems.
No major downtime experienced.

Unfortunately, I'm not a major Skype user - primarily because those I need to contact live in the stone age - and have only used it once to a relative in US (I'm also a new user of Skype), and it seemed to work adequately ...... but I haven't seen how it is with another provider, so can't make a comparison.

I think that I will go with WWZ first, because their contract can be terminated after 3 months, and not after one year as with Sunrise. Let's try and see!

DSL+Natel package of swisscom is perfect. I have the same situation with you. I had my landline suppressed and I'm quite satisfied with this package with skype 24/7 connected. I've been on this package for almost 5 years now.

Unfortunately I already have a mobile subscription with Sunrise and the contract is quite recent....
But you are right, Swisscom is great! I'm currently subscribed to Swisscom and the Internet works fantastic.

I have been using sunrise click&call 15000 for the last 12 months and mo problems so far. We use skype a lot and it works great and because i have a mobile abo with sunrise we get 30 chf off from our 79 chf/month landline/internet bill.

Sunrise would indeed be the best option for me, as I also get a discount for having a mobile abonnement with them, but I'm getting quite scared by reading some comments here...

The offer is very good but experiences can be different...it depends where you live, infrastructure and other factors. So that is why I am not saying that it is the best but since February 2011 I have never had a single problem at home with my internet...surprise or not...it is true.
The biggest surprise for me was that the mobile internet from Sunrise was better than Swisscom. I used swisscom for one year and I know that they have better coverage...bla bla bla...but for me sunrise was better. Again, it depends what you use the mobile internet for and where you use it...so...it really depends.
Also, keep in mind what Sunrise offers in addition to the 30 chf discount. We were given for a one year contract a Samsung tablet (I think it is 600 chf worth), a Siemens touch phone for 20 chf (200 chf worth) and the wireless modem for 70 chf (270 chf worth). And we pay for one year 600chf total! I do agree that when the service sucks these things are not a big deal but for us it was worth it.

I have Sunrise mobile and Swisscom mobile, and sometimes Sunrise's works better than Swisscom! Also the prices are quite great and I cannot complain for their service so far.

Just because if I'd get an internet abonnement with Sunrise I would have to be bounded to them for a year, I decided to try it with WWZ whose contract limit is of 3 months. I will try it and then I might change to Sunrise, but at least I have the option to get away from it shortly.
