I have recently successfully installed the Cablecom digital TV and radio package which is excellent, and included a free router for wifi. The MediaBox is installed with our main TV in the lounge.

Can any radio 'technicians' advise if I can pickup the digital radio stations in another room if I connect a DAB radio aerial to any Cablecom wall socket which provides the digital TV and radio channels throughout the apartment?

I am awaiting a response from Cablecom but expect they will tell me to rent another Mediabox. This doesn't solve the problem as I wish to use a bedside DAB radio and not play through another TV.

(For those familiar with a Cablecom installation, the 'radio socket' itself in every room only provides the existing analogue radio channels).

upc cablecom do not distribute any DAB signals

They send out bog standard analogue FM, and they send out DVB-C radio channels.

So either a bog standard analogue FM radio, or a DVB-C receiver + DigiCard, or a settop box is required to receive the radio channels

If you have a DAB set (or better a DAB+ one) you would only be able to receive from air what CC would redistribute anyway.

Cablecom receive from air and satellite and redistributes. Sadly the whole future of DAB radio is under question. The UK has pushed DAB hard, but has no DAB+ and DAB+ sets seem unavailable there. Switzerland had more on DAB+ than DAB.
France has no DAB radio at all. German has stopped development.

In a car DAB is useless, as it cuts out with every tunnel and multi storey car park, often taking minutes to regain the signal. It is slow to switch channels and as far as my hearing goes is no better than FM, and often worse...

If you have a DAB radio, you already have everything you need to catch digital Radio. I don't really understand what you expect Cablecom to add to this ...

The Cablecom radio channels include UK English channels NOT broadcast in FM or DAB and NOT available on the analogue radio cable.

The only way to hear these channels is to play them through the TV. - unless you go to the expense and rent another digital box for another cable socket (however I think we only pay 6 chufs per month extra for our second one).

Basic radio stations from basic cable (non-digital) can be accessed from other connected cable sockets on a hi-fi with co-axial cable aerial connector.

EDIT: If you have wifi router, you may want to consider internet radio, for an endless choice of stations.

However I am a bit confused now as I've had this reply from Cablecom:

"As long as your radio has a digital tuner, you can plug into any outlet of cable TV and you will have access to digital radios."

Best way is to test this out with a sale or return DAB radio - but with limited French (and no German) its a bit difficult to visit a dealer and discuss the pros and cons of using a DAB radio to attach to the Cablecom outlet.

The DAB radio does not connect to the Cablecom outlet.

A standard tuner with a coax input is what you are thinking of...

If you like radio, invest in an internet radio. You'll never look at Cablecom's offerings again.
