Windows 8 is about as relevant to me as the amount of penguin poop on the beach on South Georgia after low tide.
Thank f**k for that!

From everything I have read, seen or heard about Windows 8 I won't be touching it with a 10ft barge pole! I don't have a tablet or touch enabled device, don't want a tablet or touch enabled device & don't need a tablet or touch enabled device so why should I have to tolerate using an operating system so obviously geared toward tablets and touch enabled devices (despite the ongoing oratory from Microsoft that this is not the case) - BIG FAIL Microsoft! You just invented another Windows ME in my opinion.

It will run with both a touch and non-touch method of use to satisfy the different kinds of device that are already in place and those that are coming.
With a unified UI for Windows Phone, which was also applauded on it's release (though is struggling to gain ground in the Personal Market space due to lack of Apps) this will give a consistent experience across the desktop and mobile device.
There will always be a range of people who will berate Microsoft whatever is released, however rather like an unbadged car, if in a wild and wicked experiment, this release had been given to Apple who announced it as the next iOS at their snazzy conferences, I rather expect the crowd would have been on their feet applauding.
Time will tell, but I think the product will speak for itself once it is released fully.

I assume you believe there will be no desktop? Rest at ease.
Windows 8 will offer a unified experience across PCs, tablets, phones and the XBox. Wait until they reduce the size of Kinect and bring that into the loop....Windows 9, perhaps.
It seems to be a strong opinion from someone who has not seen or worked with the dev preview or this consumer preview....
I think it'll be a game-changer. iPad and other tablets don't have the architecture yet to plug into corporate environments - Windows already has architecture and traction.
Let's not forget Windows came with tablet PCs long before the iPad. Yes, their design was too much PC and not enough consumer and I give Apple lots of credit for the shift they've driven, a huge change in the past 5 years. Thanks.
I think it'll make the merger of consumer and other IT very interesting.

Lots of people talking about Windows release's alternating between good and bad:-
Windows NT - good
Windows ME - bad
Windows XP - good
Windows Vista - bad
Windows 7 - good
Windows 8 - ?
Will be trailing Windows 8 next week.

I've used both Windows and OS over the years and find Windows far easier and intuitive, and by and large, more stable actually.

For the record I currently have a Macbook Pro and have tried desperately to like the OS, but alas. Installing programs complicated - mount dmg, drag to APP folder, drag icon from app folder to launch bar, unmount dmg. Real work in Mac requires use of the Terminal Window and a knowledge of code, with Windows you can happily resize partitions, make hidden files visible etc.. within the GUI Launchpad, Mission control, Time machine, Finder etc.... all silly names for basic functionality Tiling, maximising, cascading of windows not very straightforward As a file explorer, Finder sucks Its not very powerful and I just prefer the folder tree structure to the multi-pane approach in finder
Etc.. etc.
Again I've got both so not looking to start a flame war | | This user would like to thank Castro for this useful post: | |

I was apprehensive about switching from XP to 7, but had software I needed to run in 64 bit with mucho ram, so it was the sensible thing to do. Really pleased with 7, feels weird to go back to XP on a drone machine here. I don't think I'll change until necessary, as I did this time. Prolly be at Windows 11 by then . And then we'll hit the Singularity.
