free bluewin.ch e-mail address?

Is there any way I can get a cool bluewin.ch e-mail address? I was very excited to see that Swisscom offers free e-mail and does SMS in webmail, but then when I tried to sign up they would not allow it because I don't live in Switzerland.

I have a Hotmail e-mail address now, but would really like the SMS and cool domain. I do not understand why they not let everyone enjoy a free e-mail address.

Re: free bluewin.ch e-mail address?

The email is only "free" (as you pay for another service) for dsl customers.

The "free" webbased sms is only afaik for under 26 year olds who have one of the many natel (cellphone) subscriptions.

It's not free. You have to be a customer (which means you pay)
Only once you are a paying customer, can you get these services for "free"

What interesting is: after customer left the swisscom, he can still keep his e-mail account at bluewin.ch.

I don't pay a dime for my bluwin mail account and I'm not a swisscom customer either - don't know how that works though...

Re: free bluewin.ch e-mail address?

I had to check this, but apparently, if you have at least a Swiss phone number you can signup through:

https://blueadit.bluewin.ch/registra...ckage1?lang=de

As per:

http://www.swisscom.ch/de/res/hilfe/...l-adresse.html

Note that they send the user/pass through post. Thus the "free" portion here is that you are giving your details to Swisscom and likely thus request that you are targeted for advertisements from them through that too...

That might also explain how one can have a bluewin addy without being a real customer.

I am wondering though why anybody would want to have an ISP specific email address of which they are not even customers, given that there are lots good functioning freely available mail providers (that sometimes do read along with your mail) and cheap hosting packages which allow one to set up ones own domain quite cheaply....

You are the product.

As per the 'law' there is always a method that some kind of court order exchanges your emails for money.... but there are some who also sell it without that under the name of 'improving advertising targets'...

Well for one, swisscom/bluewin doesn't send advertisements, compared to gmx where you get at least one notification of that or the other per day. As far as spam is concerned, I find swisscom much better than any of the others.

They still are trying to sell me on to this TV/Phone/Internet package for which I get a pamphlet with better offers each month, note that is physical spam, not email spam. I have no interrest in it but they keep on sending, I wonder how many dead trees the total of physical spam that accounts for.

you can choose to believe whatever you want to believe ....

their software scans your emails and accordingly selects appropriate ads to display. they have to pay for the 'free' service somehow. that's fine with me. may not be fine for some people. whatever floats your boat.
