| | | I have to pay Double for my current ISP???
Advice needed pls.
I have recently moved to a new apartment, and have been with Cablecom ever since I've been here. A Sunrise lady just rang on my doorbell today, and told me that I have to pay double (one for the anschluss(???) and one to them for I don't know what!!) since I was not using their services.
Does such a thing even exist in Switzerland?
Paying double just because I get to choose my own ISP?

I do not know why Sunrise ( which does not do cable but DSL ) will come knocking on your door, but BILLAG might. Search the forum for Billag and you will discover their fees are pretty much compulsory. A man from billag just knocked on my door.... | | This user would like to thank jrspet for this useful post: | |

Paying double just because I get to choose my own ISP? | | | | | It is simple:
Sunrise:
If you use Sunrise services, you pay for the line and then the services used. If you don't want Sunrise services, or have never subscribed to them, you pay nothing
Swisscom:
You pay for the line connection and then you pay for many other services on top
Cablecom:
You pay for a cable connection, normally as part of your rent (ie: cablecom bill the landlord, and the landlord includes the charge as part of his rent figure) but in some cases cablecom charge the tenant directly (cos the landlord doesn't want to pay directly)
The cable connection covers basic analogue TV and analogue radio.
For additional services internet and phone, you subscribe and pay extra.
Often companies like Sunrise try to fool you into thinking that you pay cablecom "twice" because many people forget or are not aware that they pay the cable connection fee. But you don't pay twice. You pay a basic cable connection fee, and then you pay for services on top.

One of their sunrises knocked on my door while I was sick a few months back as well. They don't seem to mind stretching the truth to sell their services.
He was trying to get me to sign for an internet , mobile, phone. I told him that I'm not interested as it costs me more for 'free' stuff I don't need and that I'm very happy with my 50 mb internet which the phone lines can only dream of having. He was then trying to say that in peak times or when I use the tv etc. The internet speed drops dramatically which is rubbish. Phone lines have that problem that when you use the TV or phone the internet speed is affected.

Well, I have just got an internet service from Cablecom and the rental contract has also included the cable connection. And this sunrise woman is strange enough to leave me her name and contact number on a torn piece of paper asking me to contact her again to backpay me 'debts' (madness!!).

We asked a few of our swiss friends who have heard nothing about this. Well, what Ms Sunrise did was firstly to introduce herself as being responsible and in-charge of the building that I'm in and then in a grave tone told me that I had to pay double since I was on Cablecom - one for the anschluss and one to my Verwaltung/Vermieter. And to start back-paying them from the time I moved in here. We asked our landlady today who said 'Quatsch', and that's it.
So yes, I don't know why Sunrise is doing this, but we are ignoring her.

imho... ignoring things like this almost never ends well

well, ignoring because firstly, I have never ever subscribed to Sunrise, no dealings with them whatsoever. 2ndly, my landlady has never engaged any such services (and my landlady owns the entire building). 3rdly, she has not provided me with any official documents. Lastly, she's only given me her first name with a handphone number, not even a namecard.

Have you thought about phoning up Sunrise to see if she's an official rep? She's definitely trying to con you by the sounds of it. If she's a private person, trying to scam you, I'm sure Sunrise would like to take action against her and if she's actually lying in the name of Sunrise then that's definitely worth a compalint to the relevant authorities.

Update: Called admin.. Gave them Ms Sunrise's number, and was told that her number is a company registered number - company is one of the many companies working for Sunrise that sells Abonnement (contracts) to people. I asked her about double payment and the debts Ms Sunrise claimed. She said if I didn't sign anything with her, no Sunrise contract(s), then there's nothing to be paid.
That said, somehow this is scary. Like the land of milk and money can give you any reason to milk your money whether you did or did not do something.
Now I hope Ms Sunrise doesn't forge an Abonnement for me using my address and my name. And I hate it that the Admin person noted down my number.

I don't understand this nonsense. If you have Cablecom as your internet provider why should you pay another company? Lots of misunderstandings here I guess.
