Well done Cablecom... no really!

I was on the Smart Combi fibre power 50, HD media recording, and free Swiss calls for CHF 79.80. On Thursday they launched a new top deal, Fibre Power 100, with the same TV and calls package for CHF 75. I called them about switching, but got through to someone who didn't speak English (my problem I know) and they said someone would call me back. The phone rang 15 mins later at 11:48 (I checked) and the pleasant girl asked about my query. I explained, and was expecting to be told no it's for new customers or there was an "admin" fee... but nothing, she said it's a good deal I agreed and said OK. At 11:51 I got the confirmation email, so it took her zero time to process it, and the new speed and rate starts from today, and at 12:03 I did a 3 speed tests and the slowest speed I got was 102,042 kbits/s download and 9,333 upload.... happy days!

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

I just moved flats and I've used the Cablecom online service to notify them. Special twist: I've decided to change my options along with the move so double test for Cablecom. And they passed! I got my new package on my first day at my new address and everything was in line with my new order. Also jsut had to plus in the equipment and it worked ofrst time.
Bonus: the modem I used to have would not cover all rooms in my new flat. I've send an email to Cablecom explaining that and 3 days later I've received a new modem (the standard one they now offer but an update compared to the one I had) and for free.
So no phone calls, all done by email through their website and everything worked just fine, so well done. And I don't work there either...

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

just downgraded online from the power-combi to top-deal. Saved myself 25 francs per month.

which is good as I've never connected a phone line to my modem and don't watch any of the comfort channels from the TV.....

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

Hi guys,

According to the Cablecom website the Fiber Power Internet package:

Requires a cable connection with feedback channel from upc cablecom or one of our partner networks. The costs for this connection (usually CHF 27.40/month) are normally covered by the ancillary costs in rented apartments.

Could someone explain this to me please? Do you pay CHF 27.40 on top of the subscription fee?

Thanks!

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

Sorry, but does no-one else get extremely angry about this? I find that every 6 months I go onto the cablecom website and discover that they're selling some package considerably better and/or cheaper than what they're charging me. I then have to contact them and explain that this is ridiculous. They then tell me that it isnt and eventually - reluctantly - they'll agree to change my subscription. In the meantime I've been overpaying while they happily take my money.

Should they not be smart enough to automatically change your subscription each month, according to whatever is their current best deal that matches what you have? I don't believe that the onus should be on the customer to ensure that they're not being robbed blind.

I think congratulating them on the speed that they stop robbing you is missing the point.

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

Well at the beginning you sign a contract with certain conditions and it runs for at least 12 months. So they are not required to change the deal from their side even if you call them. The fact that they still do is nice though.

100% agree. However, this isnt a question of legal rights, this is a question of customer service and building brand loyalty.

I very recently switched to a digicard instead of the mediabox. I couldnt get my previous combination deal as they told me it wasnt possible with a digicard. I had to pay 100.- for the digicard. Now they offer the combination card for less than what I pay, the digicard is free AND they'll give you a wifi router. I got a bit shafted there, no?

Conversely, My contract with orange adjusts every month to whatever is the most suitable package for me and my bills have never been cheaper. My contract is up in December and just watch Orange fall over themselves to make sure I'm happy, offer me deals/handsets/credits etc to ensure that I renew with them.

I signed 12 month contracts with both and sure, they're legally binding, but there's a considerable difference in the two companies approach.

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

Well I've seen worse. Back when I was living in Germany I had cable from KabelBW and didnt want to change my contract unless I chose a new option with the exact same price. I agree, Orange is pretty awesome, I can switch contracts whenever I want, raise data limits, lower them, etc. Competition is a great thing

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

Has anyone who made the switch had the change activated?

I was hoping like PapaGoose that I'd have my changes actioned within a few hours, but it's been a day already, and they said it could be until Friday until I get ramped up to the faster connection.

I don't have a problem waiting till Friday, but wanted to know how fast other people's request have been actioned.

Cheers.

Re: Well done Cablecom... no really!

Answering questions:

It took 4 working days from ordering on the phone, to getting the set top box and increased speed.

I don't feel shafted as Cable come have never offered a deal that is cheaper or better than my existing ones. This time CHF7 per month more got me double the internet speed and a hard disc recorder and 150 channels...

Can't get the speed though:

Couldn't agree more. I just checked the Swisscom TV offering where I live and the UK channels (UK HD channels) are way better than those offered by UPC Romandie. It was very much different a year ago when the TV offering through Swisscom was horrible. Again, if only I could get the UPC German offerings I would be much happier...

This said, UPC is unbeatable when it comes to internet speeds...

CHF 99.80 for 100mb/s down, "free" (or should I rather say no additional cost) phone to Swiss and EU/US landline numbers and a good number (mainly French) channels (and non HD, bar one, UK channels) is still nothing to complain about

I would defo go for the Swisscom TV offering had it not been for the compulsory CHF 25.25 line rental per month in addition to the CHF 31 (or whatever it is)
