The iPad mini sure looks cute, basically an iPad 2 in a smaller shell.






The iPad 4 however has me hopping mad, its only been 6 months since the previous version was unveiled. It used to be that you bought an iPhone, iPad etc.. close to launch day and you'd get a years worth of use out of it before upgrade

That is a very fast upgrade!

A6 processor (a lot quicker), front facing HD camera, quicker wifi transfer speeds and the new lightening connector. Definitely not worth upgrading from the iPad 3, but irritating nonetheless.

I have watched this Apple event for the first time in my life.
Is it me or do all these guys look like 50 years old and still living with their mother?

Is the iPad mini good value for money? I am considering to buy one but the Nexus tablet is so much cheaper. When regarding depreciation and lifespan of this kind of product, does it make sense to pay 60% more for a product that is so similar?

What makes the Mini compelling for me is the fact that there is a 3G version.

i doubt that comparison.
the nexus has a 1280x800 resolution. the mini 1024x768.
this gives the nexus about 20% more pixels

Here is a side-by-side comparison. What is boils down to for me is user experience, with the same res as the iPad 2, it will run all the iPad apps natively. The Nexus 7 wins the specs pissing contest, but is not as nice to use IMHO.

Seriously? Why the rush? There must be a lot of pissed off customers who just bought their 3rd generation iPads.

Now that the iPad 3 has been removed from the Apple Store, can we expect the likes of Interdiscount to be heavily discounting them to get rid of stock? If they lop off CHF 100 then it will be a steal.

I'm definitely tempted. I love the weight, and the size and the cellular connection, but it is a bit steep.

crap. Just ordered an Ipad 3 yesterday through the Apple store, to be delivered this week. Even got it engraved with my name...

Hurry! if its already been engraved you're stuck with it. I've always resisted that temptation purely because it affects the resale value.

Why in the world would anybody choose to have their name inscribed on a piece of disposal electronics? Isn't that like having monogrammed towels? Or your name sewn inside your gym kit??

What the chuff... refresh of the new iPad after 6 months? That is a complete middle finger to the userbase, and I feel sorry for people who bought one. I'd be pretty damn peeved.

It's not an iPad 4, it's just the iPad (also called the iPad 3 by many people to help differentiate it, who now have to call this revised one an iPad 4 for the same reason) revised.

Faster CPU, different charger connector (yes, really, it seems to be important - losers), fastwe wifi (somehow - probably "N" channel bonding), a better front camera so you can skype in jittery HD instead of less jitttery SD. They also say the battery is better, but it seems no better than the iPad 2. Maybe it got worse before getting better?

Well I am really glad that I bought a nexus 7, there is nothing about the ipad mini that makes me regret the decision. Personally, I find Android to a better UI but that is a personal decision and I did have an ipad. I find the apps argument a bit weak...I cannot think of an app that is available for Apple that is not available on Android.

The big problem I have with tablets is that as soon as I need to do anything productive I immediately reach for a laptop. I am hopeful that once the prices of Windows 8 pro tablets fall that they could be a very promising laptop replacement.
