Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

I exchange a few emails with their support guys yesterday, they were pretty helpful and knew their stuff.

Having looked into it more though I think my account is not active at their end, I sent them my proxy logs and await a response.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Don't want to be negative but I heard of some cases where people would get calls from Switzernet staff about being "above the limit" on their presumably unlimited calls plans. What I want to say is just be careful - not everything is what it seems to be, especially if it is the cheapest offer on the market

Above the limit on money maybe? They offer only 50chf credit until you prove your ID.

RE: My application - still waiting for Switzernet support to get back to me. I'm going to give up soon and stick with Sipcall, the service has to be ultra reliable and I need to be able to sort out problems within a few days otherwise we end up using our mobiles defeating the object of having VoIP in the first place.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

I must be lucky then; I've made many calls in the first two weeks of "ownership" and none to the UK has been less than 30 minutes. Nobody's called me and complained.

They have a copy of my c-permit so my limitation is gone. I now have to cancel the Cablecom phone before the end of this month!!

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Still no response from Switzernet support, I chased them again yesterday.

Switzernet has not worked out for me unfortunately, I give up.

Sipcall.ch get my recommendation so far, they are not the cheapest but the best price/service tradeoff. I'll perhaps have a search and try some others.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

My final comment on Switzernet, they never came back to me after my support request.

They fall in the "Cablecom" category for me, probably pretty good when they work, but painful to correct issues.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

On Saturday I registered with voipstunt.

If you are a windows user the registration process is easy, if you are a Mac or Linux user they lock out all the convenient payment methods. I installed their client on the missus' (XP) laptop to register then removed it. This allows me to pay using credit card etc.

If you want a land line number you need to set the country in which you want the number during registration, as it doesn't seem to recognise country changes after (set you home country as the one in which you want the number).

They have instructions for setting up multiple sip capable handsets on their site, I found the instructions to be pretty good.

Here is what you get:
  • 300 minutes free calls to landlines in a whole host of countries anytime (per week)
  • Of this the first 60 minutes of a call is free and after this they start charging.
  • Discounted calls to a whole load of destinations.
To keep the service active you need to add 10 Euro every 120 days, that's it. As I understand even when this credit expires I can still get free calls as listed above during this time.

I've made several calls over the weekend, call quality was on par with sipcall. I'm impressed so far.

Just for info here is where I am now.
  • sipgate.co.uk for incoming UK calls via a London number
  • siphone.com (Gizmo) for incoming calls via a Paris number
  • sipcall.ch for incoming calls via a 032 Swiss number (not sure of area code) Might buy a Zurich area number soon as I like the service.
  • switzernet.com for incoming calls via a Lausanne number (grrrr, will remove this soon, their support stopped responding to my polite queries when the problem seemed to complicated for them)
  • voipstunt.com for all outgoing calls.
Call quality is great on all of them, it's only Switzernet I've never successfully dialed out on.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Quick technical question. Will VOIP work over a cable internet connection?

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

peachy,

I logged onto voipstunt and tried to order an incoming number.
It says no numbers currently available for Switzerland.
Have you asked them when that might become available?

thanks,

I haven't asked them since I have the numbers I need for the moment.

This is a bit of a bummer, since you can't now change your country if you wanted to buy an inbound number from another country either.

Try SJPhone from sjlabs.com. I use it all the time and it works very good both on linux and windows for me. I suppose the mac version is also ok.

This looks like another voipstunt type company but it's even cheaper.
