Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

I have the G729 for annex B enabled (that's the default). G722 is, IIRC, the codec I use on Switzernet - but the codecs would mean you have issues during the call - and it sounds like you're getting "registration failed" ....

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

So I went through the IP address which I got for the phone which is 192.168.002.002 and that got me through to the web-interface where I changed the sip server from sip6 to sip10 as told to do in the email. I haven't changed anything else re. router as the phone was working fine before.

I configured the phone on a network at work, so the phone wasn't connected to my home modem at the time - does this make a difference? Sorry for being such a muppet!

sip10.youroute.net

dots are important. Also back to Greg's question - are you forwarding any ports from your router to the IP phone? 5004 5060 and some others.

What kind of router are you using?

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

your router is likely at 192.168.2.1 and will have the settings internally. Did anyone give you a hand to set up the IP phone?

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

so the router is the basic one which comes from cablecom. it is motorola surfboard, model SB5101E.

I bought the phone from Switzernet so that it would come pre-configured...was fine until now...

Ah. Okay. I think some things are making sense now. That's only a cable modem. You'll need a router hooked up to that little box. I'm going to guess you've got your desktop hooked in via usb, and the phone via the ethernet port?

So, you need a router to handle the networking. Once you get that set up your phone should work.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

ah yes, the cablecom modem won't work with USB and ethernet in use - and if you have a one-IP-abo, the second device won't get an internet address.

quite a few issues there - which would go away with a cheapo router. My latest one cost 60 francs

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

So I only use either the computer or the phone - never the same together. Both are ethernet connected and so not networked to each other.
Do I need to have the phone connected to my home modem while I reconfigure the phone, rather than configuing it on a different network (ie the one at work, using the wireless network there?)

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

munchkin, you really need a router. I recommend this: http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_93843.html

I installed one several weeks ago and it has now been running for 51 days. Solid.

It will resolve many of your problems and should be easy enough to set up. I'm guessing you're not technical but know someone who is?

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Me, not technical, how did you guess?!!
Will get a router and hopefully that will help things!
So frustrating that can't plug phone in somewhere else to configure it and plug it back into my modem...would solve everything!
Will be bribing someone from work to try and sort me out!
Thanks for all your help.

That's pretty cool, but I'd guess Munchkin probably just has wired systems. Got any suggestions for a wired router w/o wireless? Something easy to configure?

wired -vs- wireless will likely have the same interface. Turn off wifi, no problemo.

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

Depends on how much usage, where you are calling, and your internet connection. Something like Skype is fairly decent and user-friendly, however can be expensive if you use it a lot.

There are other services such as Terra SIP - http://www.terrasip.com. However, it requires you use a SIP client. That might be problematic, if you are not very familiar with the computer. Though the connections are not that great most of the time, the cost is pretty good and it is usable. If you are calling anything mobile in Europe, it's relatively quite expensive.

VOIP similar to Vonage in Switzerland

I recently set up vonage in my flat with a US number so that I can call home at will and not worry about the phone costs. I was wondering if there was a similar VOIP service in Switzerland where I can get the number and send it back to the states with my Fiance so she can call my cell/work phone at will.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: [VoIP] Swiss VoIP services: Experience

It looks like Switzernet has mixed results with customer service, but has anyone taken the box outside of Switzerland and used it at all?
