| | | Best places to buy Consumer Electronics Hi all, I am new to this forum. Having just moved to Switzerland I am planning to buy a LCD TV. May I ask, - if any one brought electronics items from online site netscout24 or a similar one? Is it a reliable one? - Any one had any past bad experiences? - Will they deliver to home or I have to collect from post office ? Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Welcome to the forum ... I have purchased everything from my camera to my PC over the net ... I usually use www.toppreise.ch for the best prices and then select the internet company which best suits my needs ( Credit card , pickup/delivery , warranties etc. ) .... Internet purchases for electronics are safe ,just need to shop a little for the right deal .

If you go to somewhere like Mediamarkt you can get them to deliver same day (a few hours later) including Saturday. Also consider getting a taxi back from somewhere with the TV.
- Most places will deliver to your home direct.
- I've never had any bad experiences.

I bough my LCD TV 1 year ago at www.misco.ch
It is a german web dealer, but everything is with swiss warranty and it was delivered at home after 5 days.

I have used microspot.ch (part of coop group) for a TV. Quick delivery no issues.
I have used azone.ch too in the past 3 or 4 times without problem too.
Neither necessarily the absolute cheapest, but it's not just about that, the former I used on the basis of the coop link (reputable), the latter very responsive to enquiry emails etc and has an outlet in adliswil close to me so I figure I can go and square up to someone if there is an issue (plus it seems to be run by a brit)

I recently used http://www.buchmann.ch/ and found them very helpful. They also have a "real" shop near ZH, which would/will be useful if I have any problems with my purchases later on.

I also advice you to search for your tv on www.toppreise.ch then buy it on-line from the cheapest dealer you can find.
Check the website of the dealer for details like delivery time, if they use Die Post or DHL/UPS... and so on.
If you buy something expensive like a tv set, the delivery is generally free.
I've bought stuff on-line from architronic.ch, pcp.ch and brack.ch Never had problems with them. I kinda prefer brack.ch because of the proximity: I can drive there in 15 minutes to pick up my stuff...I'm a bit skeptic about leaving a hard disk or a camera lens in the hands of the evil packet-thrower postmen.
I also avoid delivery by UPS/DHL etc...because when they deliver I'm at work, and having the stuff delivered in the office is a pain in the ass. I prefer the Post, because I can pick up the delivery at the local post office, a few minutes walk from home.

the online electronic retail market here is terrific...lots of options, info, and choice. i too used toppreise.ch to research availability and price for a recent lcd tv purchase. ended up purchasing it from misco.ch. They even included a swiss power plug (in addition to the german one which it gets packaged with) which I wasn't expecting. (although a cable wire was not...which I was expecting).
I also have dealt with CBroker which were also very good and very helpful over the phone.
you'll likely have a more difficult time choosing from all the lcd tv brands, models, and options than you will purchasing it online.

It will show you whos got the best price for what you're looking for and digitec does get beaten . (sometimes significantly, not everyday but it happens)
Another thing is that some things are worth paying the shipping to buy from america.
I just saved about 150 franks buying a guitar effects processor , paid 30 chf for shipping another 17 chf for TVA (fed ex sent me a bill for Tva go figure.) so total cost was 229 chf. and It would have cost me 350chfs at best here.

Thus the warranty may be affected although I am not quite sure how. Whether what I heard is true or not I can't say because so far I have never had problems with the goods I have bought on-line.

| | | Best place for electronics?
I am officially a new guy (still unpacking boxes), and need to change/upgrade some electronics (TV, some computer equipment, wired phone, etc.). What I have now is a strange mix of US and UK, and I need to get some new things just to have it all work here.
I notice larger Coop and Migros have some electronic equipment, but not much selection. I Google'd (god love ya, Google!) for electronics/Switzerland and Zurich, but am non German speaking and ads don't tell much as to size of store and costs.
Does anyone have recommendations for electronics stores with good selection and (relatively) reasonable prices - either national chains (if they exist) or in the Zurich/Zug area?
There is another thread on the forum like this, but it seems to be focussing on parts... I want to buy new equipment (at least until I break it! ).
Thanks in advance.

Oops... just getting used to search in this forum. When I posted, it indicated several threads that did not come up in my original search, so I will go with those. Please ignore the thread while I see if I can delete it. Thx.

Try www.toppreise.ch that compares items and gives prices and links to seller.
I personally like:
(Computers, TV's) www.stegpc.ch
(Computer, TV, Audio/Video, some appliances) www.netto24.ch
(Computer mostly) www.internet.ch
Buying on the internet is usually cheaper and has more variety, but of course lacks the "see and buy it now" that you get with brick-and-morter stores.
Otherwise, Fust, Coop, Migros, etc. are all pretty much equal. Maybe Interdiscount has some better sales. In January and June/July alot of stores have big sales. Maybe some still have some going on...
...oh, you can try MediaMarkt as well...

I have twice had massive delays on orders for delivery (both of which were indicated as available at the time of order, and were then delayed multiple times), and won't be using that particular service of theirs again.
