Does anyone know where I can pre-order a Nintendo Wii? I tried Media Markt, but they aren't doing any preorders or presales.

My son.. yeah, that's it, my son, really wants a Nintendo Wii on the Dec. 8th release date, I'd like to get it on release to ensure that I don't have to wait until after Christmas to get one. I..I mean, he, wants to take off work, er, school on the 8th so I can pathetically sit around all day in my underwear reliving the glory days of my youth.

Have you tried Franz Karl Weber? I pre-ordered a PS2 from there a few months before the launch date.

At the moment on 2 companies are listed, but I'm sure that list will expand before the release date and you can ask them about the pre-order possibilities.

I've seen it a few places online, from www.toppreise.ch for example, but I want instant gratification. I'll probably pre-order one at a local game store for backup, and waiting outside Media Markt as well, using the preorder deposit for a game or something if I manage to get one at Media Markt.

Is it coming out on the 7th or 8th? On Wikipedia.org it shows December 7th for Switzerland and I asked in Media Markt and they said the same thing, but it seems to be coming out in the rest of Europe on the 8th, and on the 9th in Spain.

Its coming out on the 7th here, because half the cantons have some sort of holiday. I've already got mine preorded at Interdiscount thanks to AbFab's keen eyes.

Well got one from Inter Discount yesterday, it's my Xmas pressie so not played it yet but at least I know I have it. Grabbed Zelda and another Remote controller as well, now I'm searching for Component cables, if anyone sees some let me know!

Well, I was at Media Markt in Deitlikon last night around 9pm, and they still had quite a few systems available, so perhaps the whole pre-order thing wasn't really needed.

That being said, I decided to get an Xbox 360 for now, as the Wii games just didn't appeal to me all that much. I'll get one in 6 months.

And i'm sure it won't be too long before you get those Wii style controllers on the other new consoles. It's supposed to be dead cool to play with.

PS3 already has a motion sensor in the new dual shock joypad, some would claim this was a last minute addition to steal a little of the Wiis thunder.

Sounds like enough arrived in CH, I'm in the UK at the moment where stocks are limited, my nephew didn't get his pre-order from HMV yesterday as they only managed to get hold of 10 and he is 15th on the list

There is LOTS of stock in Basel. Infact the local Media Markt at the SBB has quite a few left on a big crate AND I never saw 1 person grab one.

BUT I say this is just like the PSP hype, they short stock the UK in hopes of creating a buzz across the rest of Europe. By January the Wii will be everywhere in the UK and will most likely tumble in the following months like the PSP sales did.

I actually played it for a bit. From 15 minutes on I got bored of the motion stuff quickly. It's a gimmick really and I think it's a passing fad that will fade quickly. This is Nintendo's last shot (for consoles) and like Sega was (Sega CD,Saturn,Dreamcast) it is hanging on by a thread soon to be cut. Infact, I even expect the PS3 sales to be very low with the estimated 900CHF price they are going to be at launch not to mention a dampened release hype with a release in March 2007.

I don't play video games or haven't owned any systems for a long long time but it looks to me that the XBox 360 will prevail among the Wii and PS3. Why? I see a TON of people buying games for it and it has had a foothold in the European market for a while now with good online gaming. Plus I hear it will come with HDDVD drives next year.

This is Microsoft at its best. They were very smart to enter the market when they did. They enter early (Xbox), throw millions and millions of dollars at it (Xbox 360) and create a winning product. I expect the Zune to follow the same strategie and eventually decrown the iPod.

Hmmm! I would have to disagree. I think that Nintendo has a hard core following in the east that will sustain it and perhaps more importantly they have tried to create a niche market within the games market. Fun games for the younger or less dedicated gamer and there consoles always seem to undercut the other players. Mario, Zelda and Super Monkey Ball are great franchises.

Sony vs Microsoft is another story and I wouldn't want to comment as who can guess which will win? Didn't the XBox beat the PS2 to market and PS2s weren't cheap at release and I'd say that sony won that round. As demand
grows costs will be driven down. I think it's the software that will win the day and XBox 360 has a growing number of developers but again Sony has good market share in the east.

As to the Zune I have to say that I'd go with the new 80GB ipod but I'm not interested in watching movies in a 4inch by 3 inch screen and would want it only to store photos and music.

And could some of you early adopters tell us what the Wii is like when you can put it down for a moment, or at least tell us what yours "sons" say?

Nintendo do make some really nice games though, even if the hardware isn't always the most advanced. For the last year, my most played system has been my Gameboy Micro. Not much to speak of in the gfx and sound dept but some really great, playable games. Being able to play it when on the train or other places where you sit for a while (ahem) has probably helped it get a lot of extra playtime though Of all the new consoles, the PS3 looks the most appealing to me but I suspect that the fact that it's soooooo expensive will put many off. The many delays, especially for us in Europe, will have put it at a big competitive disadvantage.


Not too enamoured of the MS Zune. It's bulky for a modern HDD jukebox and MS really screwed a lot of people over by introducing a new DRM format and abandoning compatibility with their own 'Plays for Sure' standard which they had been pushing for a couple of years

I would certainly buy an iPod over a Zune any day but hopefully my trusty iRiver 140 will serve me for a few more years yet...... With any luck 40gig flash drives will be common when it finally 'kicks the battery'.
