Get my parents to get multi room ...
then take the box and card here to switzerland to hook it up to the dish.

sky will call in a few months asking to test the line...so simply bring the box back to england. The box will be free and it will only cost £10 a month more for the card (get all the channels through my rents)

Has anyone else done this or heard of this?

It works in the manner that, because you have the boxes NOT connected to the same telephone line, you'll pay 2 x the main accout.

Ok i heard different but if anyone else knows different please let me know? I heard it can reduce the average bill as well as long as they are both registered to the same address.

you can take a lower subscription which will reduce your bill.

why do you think the boxes need to be connected to the same phone line and are forced to call to Sky to verify this? You're not the first to try to con their system

grrrrrrr i need a HD box and a card with all the channels. why is it sooo hard in this country

HD Box is £399 off-contract. Subscription will be at the most £52.50 for the Sky channels.

I'd recommend activating card in box in the UK. HD boxes do work abroad, I know that - but I don't have one as I don't see the point (even though most of my display devices are HD).

My first post and as for most of us newbies it is one of needed information before I commit. As the title reads, I have borrowed this box with a view to buying it, it works fine with the FTV channels but I need to know if I upgrade to a Sky package (preferrabley HD) will it be compatable
I ask, because the box says it is set up for use with Premeire?

If the box says it is for Premiere and cunningly has a Nagravision card reader, it's nothing to do with Sky UK (or Italia).

You're getting FTA channels btw, not FTV. You need a card for the "V" channels.

Let me also move your post to a thread with information about SkyHD and Multiroom.....
edit: do read above on the links I posted about SkyHD working abroad. It does and should work with a proper HD display (which I assume you have and is driving your urgency for SkyHD)

As an aside, you could also subscribe, I believe, to Preimiere who have the original language on many of their channels.

If you're tight enough to think it'll work and want to fly back and forth with the box, go right ahead.

I sincerely believe it'll be more hassle than it's worth. Can you take a Sky box in your hand luggage right now?

This is what was done by a buddy of mine, unfortunately he was not able to return it back to the registered address so Sky split it into two separate subscriptions at the same address.

yes u can...but this will save £500 a year as the card will only be £10 a month! So parents bill and mine for an extra £10.
People at work do it and aparently take the box back with them. You can take laptops now so i guess sky boxs are ok

aha, but you can and do have to power a laptop up. So take the power cable for your sky box then

or just bubble wrap it and put it in your bag bag! I plan to go home at least once a month so travelling back n fourth isn't a prob. The plan would actually be for me to pay my parents bill each month.

What do you mean return it? It will be done to my parents address so i shouldn't have a problem about returning it. They will set it all up when they install it and make teh calls etc so it solves that problem as well....

Meaning... whilst it is here in CH it is not connected to phone line @ registered address, so when it was not detected, Sky split it into two accounts @ same address.

Ok so did the multi-room plan work then? That was my cunning plan until stumbling upon this post.
