Problem with CATV Wall Outlet (Cablecom)

Hi,

I'm new to switzerland so I'm here to ask you some thing.
I live in neuchatel and my apartment only have one CATV Wall Outlet, so I need to connect my cablecom router and my TV to the same outlet. I have only the Internet service from cablecom.

My doubt is how do I do that? I'm asking this because my wall outlet only has two connector, TV and R (radio?) and I have no Internet when I connect the router to the R plug, the internet only works on the TV plug. And if I connect the TV to the R plug it have bad reception...

So, I think that this CATV Wall Outlet is old and it filters the frequencies on the R plug, and so, it is impossible to have internet on it.

If I'm right and the fault is because the CATV Wall Outlet is damaged or not compatible with my needs, from whom is the responsabiliti?

It is I that need to buy a new one? The appartment owner, landlord? (I dont know the right english term I'm sorry, I rent this appartment) Or is the cable provider? Video2000 or UPC Cablecom.

If the problem is not from the CATV Wall Outlet, what mistake am I doing?

Thank you in advance

If you look into the user's guide I linked, Page 10 says that you should be having an "adapter" thing that you plug into the TV outlet, then attach the COAX cable to that. That "router" is more like a set-top box isn't it? Which package or service did you order from UPC?

No.

I only have the internet service from Cablecom. And in the user's guide it says that I should connect my modem/router to the R plug, but it do not synchronize.

That "adapter" is only when you have Digital TV, and I don't.

Re: Problem with CATV Wall Outlet (Cablecom)

I see, from what it looks like on certain forums other people do seem to have the same problem, some write they had to wait 15 minutes, others say they had to reset up to 6 times...

I agree you should call them at 0800 66 88 66, this is free and 24*7.

(What may also happen if you are a first tenant with this type of access, is that you need an electrician to the binding in the basement. This usually happens in new buildings. I had the same problem.)

R means Radio. The radio signals are present, the TV and Internet signals are filtered out. Do not expect Internet or TV to work on the R socket.

TV means TV, the TV signals are present, and also Internet.
However, T may also filter some internet signals out. (depends on the age of the socket)

The temporary solution is to run TV and Internet both from the TV socket. You will need a splitter.

The best solution is to replace the wall socket with a modern one that has the TV, and R, and also an Internet socket.
The TV is still filtered for TV
The R is filtered for Radio
But the Internet socket has no filters whatsoever and the Internet works properly (In fact you can use all devices on the Internet socket)

Thanks,

I was not sure if the R filtered the other signals, I am capable of replacing the wall socket, I just like to know if it is up to me buy the wall socket? Or the Video2000 or the apartment owner.

Thanks

Confirmed. The "Radio-/TV Datendose" from OBI (1020 Renens) works as expected.

Digital TV and Internet from upc-cablecom can be consumed with no interference.

The price is ou-u-ch CHF 65.-
