Re: internet tv?

Anyone else think this thread should be a sticky? It contains lots of useful info.

Here's one i found yesterday, it costs though, $45.00 USD (£23 GBP approx) a month for 11 UK stations... I've not tried it yet as it doesn't (yet?) work for Mac but i'd be interested to know if anyone on here tries it.

They do a free 7day trial.

Another site similar to tv-links with loads of movies and shows is this one:

http://www.free-tv-video-online.info/

I also use Zattoo for watching ITV (London) which is great for watching the British teams in the Champions League with English commentary. On Zattoo it is also possible to watch all the programmes that are broadcast in dual channel in English (ie, all the American shows on SF2 on a Monday evening)

Re: internet tv?

Does anyone else use UKNova ? I use that to download MOTD every week. From that sight you can download basically everything that's screened on terrestrial and freeview British TV, usually about 24 hours after broadcast. Costs nowt, it's just a bit-torrent site really but works really smoothly.

Re: internet tv?

Haven't had good experience with TV over the internet, but I just purchased a Slingbox and have a friend in the states with a satellite system that will be sharing his signal with me. He is setting it up this week and I should then be able to watch any U.S. tv show through my computer.

Electronic stores also sell Slingbox in Europe so if you can find someone (parents, relatives, friend) to let you hook up the Slingbox in your homeland you can watch anything that comes across their cable system or satellite.

I move to Switzerland the 21st of this month so I will be providing an update on how effective the Slingbox works once I have had a chance to use it for a couple weeks.

Best part of the whole deal is NO monthyl fees...although the Slingbox was a hefty $229 USD from BestBuy

Took the plunge and took a years subscription for Sky and Satana sports for £136 with liveuktv. Cheaper than Sky and a good watchable picture to date and I am on wifi @ 48 mbps. Presently watching the cricket on sky sports 1. I travel a lot and this is fantastic. Use a slingbox for BBC1 etc.

I've been using LiveUKTV for the last 2 months. I must say, it's pretty nice to have all the 'common' stations to watch.

Quality could be better, but the stream is pretty always just great, a lot less out-of-sync problems like zattoo got sometimes.

The $49 is quite ok, I'm hoping they're adding a little more programmes to it in the future.

Can't say anything on the sports channels, as I haven't ordered that.

Re: internet tv?

From this morning's NZZ website: Internet-TV wird gebührenpflichtig (Internet TV will have a fee). The plan is for after September 1st, and I wonder how this will be managed? Are there any other countries charging for internet tv access? Bad sign in my opinion...

Re: internet tv?

Please forgive my complete lack of understanding of the subject, and please forgive me if this has already been answered...

After reading yesterday's announcement about internet TV being subject to Billag fees from 1 Sept, I am still confused. Will one only be required to pay if one actually uses internet TV, or will one be obligated if a computer is simply capable of receiving it?

(And, total Luddite that I am , how do I know if my computer is capable of receiving internet TV?)

I do not own a TV, haven't watched a TV program in 10 years, doubt I'll ever own one/watch it again- so at present don't pay the TV tax. (Do pay the radio tax, though). I don't watch internet TV, and as far as I know don't access any streaming sites like Zatoo, etc as mentioned in the article. But, seemingly contradictory, the article says that now practically everyone will be liable for the TV tax.

So, bottom line, does the fact that I own a computer now make me liable for the tax, regardless of TV usage?

(Wandering back to my library now... it's just so much simpler to read a book...)

Interesting questions...I'm sure there are no answers at the moment... I doubt if people will get taxed just for owning a computer, but perhaps there will be a surcharge to have internet access...or perhaps there will be a charge if one subscribes to a service like Zattoo or Netstream...or perhaps...well, some other arrangement. I wonder if radio subscriptions will be subject to the same sort of charge??? One thing is for sure...it will be interesting to see how the internet tv providers argue their case and what the government says in return...
