| | | Sky card
Hi I have just joined but have been reading all the posts on Sky installations/agents etc.
I brought a Sky card and box over from England with me, bought all the stuff (dish, cable LNB etc.) but my house has such a big roof (it's an old barn) and is at the wrong angle we can't mount the dish anywhere and get any kind of signal. The guy who came to install said it would have to be mounted a long way from the house would need special equipment to boost the signal etc. and would cost 2000 CHF. I used a guy in Ruschlikon.
I'm totally gutted.
I'm now stuck with a Sky box and £43 a month Sky package I cannot use! Has anyone got any suggestions or does anyone want my Sky dish and card with no agency fee etc? Thanks

you could have a floor-mounted dish installation?
and you should not need a signal booster - a bigger dish, maybe.
FWIW I paid 3000 for my installation - that was wall-mount with two more LNBs, DiSEqC switch, distribution amp to insert into my cable tv network.

i am with marty at skydigitalcards since september 2005, and i can say that marty is a very good guy doing a good job.
marty sells now subscriptions only also, you don´t need to buy the box from him.
marty is a bit sad that he has to sell the Sky HD Boxes at such a big cost, ask him for special prices on Sky HD Boxes - don´t buy them at the price he has to offer on his site.
the ROI subscription excludes Five, Five Life and Five US - these are only available via Sky UK subscription.
Channel 4 is now on Sky ROI EPG and the EPG is missing BBC Three/Four and ITV1/2 - you can add them via Other Channels.
For the Technically Advanced, i have perfect use of the Dreambox 7020/7025 with a Sky ROI Card and a Sky FTV Card for Five.
Sadly the Dreambox 8000 will take some time to be available for HD Viewing...

| | | Viewing SKY in Switzerland HOWTO
As I see this come up repeatedly, here's the lowdown on the use of Sky in Switzerland.
First off, Sky is contractually not allowed to broadcast everything across the border, so they have to take measures to contain reception and cannot be seen to break the agreement - a simple legal matter for them. So, they have put a number of things in place to stop use outside the UK: - You'd need a UK address
- Interactive callback only works in the UK.
So, in principle, SKY itself cannot sell you services if you're not in the UK. You can get a service without phone callback (for instance, for a camper or mobile home) but you'd end up paying quite a bit more as Sky cannot your sell your viewing data to 3rd parties (the box watches what you watch!).
But business is business, and you will find people like www.skytvcard.com offering services nevertheless. So, how do they do it? - They use a UK residential address for registration. SKY has no way of knowing if an address is a large apartment block or a single flat, so multiple subscriptions are OK.
- They use UK payment methods (CC on UK address etc).
- They isolate support from Sky - you should call them for problems, not Sky. Note that Sky has a contractual duty to disable the card if they suspect use from abroad.
So, in principle, Sky is still making the money (and your intermediate) but has no knowledge of where your card is. Also, the difference in volume (abroad use is only a small percentage of their overall subscriber base) makes it not worth it for Sky to investigate.
In principle, you could do the above yourself if you had UK friends. But what about the telephone line requirement? Three answers: - as above, you could claim you're installing in a "mobile home" (i.e. don't have a fixed landline) and will thus pay a lot more;
- a provider as above can sell you a gadget that routes the box call to the UK using call forwarding techniques;
- you buy yourself a Vonage subscription (vonage.co.uk) with a UK address. The Internet gadget comes with an ordinary BT jack socket, and will give you a landline number in the UK using the Internet (handy to have anyway if you have a lot of UK friends as landline calls are included in the monthly subscription, approx CHF 20). Plug your Sky box in and it will be able to dial back without anyone realising that its physical location is not in the UK.
Before I forget, discuss your needs with a good provider before you get a subscription. There are Sky digiboxes out there that are more capable than just Sky, AFAIK some can handle extra satellite inputs so you could also have it pick up and record programs from Hotbird or Hispasat or whatever extra satellite takes your fancy. There is, for instance, an unscrambled Thai TV5 channel you can get on Hotbird-4, I managed to get that to work on a Sky box with a T-switch between 2 dishes.
That's all folks..

Hi Everybody,
This is my first post to this site.
I have an Irish Skycard through what used to be Skycards.net, now Storesatellite.com. I am having certain difficulties with them which I need to resolve. However, the phone number quoted on their website is never answered and has a permanent message inviting callers to email them. I have emailed them several times but have not received any reply.
I also note that the Storesatellite website does not have a business or correspondence address for the organisation.
Has anybody else had difficulties with Storesatellite.com or know if they are still in business or where they can now be contacted? Any information gratefully received and appreciated.
Thanks and best regards,
Paul

It allowed you to admin your Sky payments or something and get rebates on the card for using various Sky pay services.

Have skycards.net/Storesatellite ever responded to your e-mails? I recently attempted to e-mail support@skycards.net and received a delivery failure message. My credit card details have changed making it impossible to pay Storesatellite. As a result, the packages I pay for have been deactivated. :-(
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Mike

Mike | | | | | There's often been complaints about skycards now storesatellite.net.
I have to say I've had no problems at all and yes, they respond to any support requests in a reasonable time - my last contact was last Saturday, I received a response Sunday. The email address I used was sales@storesatellite.com
I always use this one, even if it is a support question - I guess sales enquiries may be read first .
On the issue of credit cards expired, this happened to me too, the first time. The solution is to go to the website online shop and 'buy' the "change credit card" product which then allows you to add a new credit card. The second time my card expired I did this in advance and there was no interuption of service.
Accepting that others have different experiences, they get the thumbs up from me and I would recommend them.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I did a Google on SKYCARD Net and it came up with this thread.
I have been with SKYCARD Net for 5 years and now that I have just noticed I need a pin number to view movies (apparently during the day) I couldn't get in touch with SKYCARDS NET on the contact number and email address and website link that I had.
Does anybody know if this Store Satellite is the old SKYCARDS Net. I have written to them just now and don't expect to hear back immediately. I use to deal with a gentlemen by the name of Damian Rankin, is he still with this company?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Kim

the viewing card you have - is it the only one you've ever had? The PIN is the last 4 digits of the first card you ever had on your account.
edit: I've moved your post to a new thread and if you read the reply above your post from Swissbob, you'll see a new domain/email address: sales@storesatellite.com |

I went in for a RoI card from SkyDigitalCards.com. Marty was fast and very helpful by mail. From this month, I guess they have introduced an yearly fee just like other providers. Thats sad But I guess they could not help it. It is still 75 Euros which is lower than any other provider I have seen, (and I have seen a whole lot of providers across Europe). I got my card activated without any problem thanks to them. Since I registered before June, I got it all for no cost.
I miss Channel Five though on the RoI card cause that shows a daily cricket highlights package of all matches which I dont seem to get that in any other channel.
SkyDigitalCards also sells the boxes. I think the box + card prices are as cheap or costly as any other provider. The only difference I guess is in the lower yearly cost comparitively. 75 Euros translated to 48 pounds. None of the other sites I have seen has anything less than 100 pounds.

About 3 months ago I had to contact storesatellite to update my credit card details. After several mails & 2 months later I finally got a short reply stating that 'it should be ok now' (so they appear to still be in business).
However after one months payment from my new credit card the payments have again stopped? I have sent another email to sales@storesatellite.com as well as sending a note via the website contact section, however I'm not holding my breath & wouldn't be supprised if I get cut off from Sky. At which point I will probably give <URL REMOVED> a try from whats been mentioned above.

Sypaz, you strike me as a spammer. Why would someone in Leeds need a service like this?

I had read somewhere (i am not able to trace where exactly now) before that it is possible for someone living in UK to call up some Sky number and just ask for the viewing card saying that they have bought the equipment on ebay or from a friend. And Sky will be able to send only the viewing card without any additional cost (other than of course the monthly cost of whatever package). Is that true? Does anyone know what number needs to be called?

If you have Sky+ or SkyHD be sure to activate it in the UK. Once activated (with the callback) you can take the box with you.

I live in France and have Sky, my satellite supplier told me about it.
You can read all about it <snip - moderator note - the poster claims to be in France but has a UK IP address - until otherwise proven, I say spam>

You can read all about it at<snip> | | | | | I wouldn't call 'agents' in Europe pirates - the subscriptions are being paid for.
I also seriously doubt that Sky are setting about stopping European viewers. Estimates put their 'outside of UK' viewership at a very high level. Certainly enough to cause a substantial dent in their profits if they were all cut off.
As always though, if you want Sky then do it through a UK relative/friend. It's a much better way to go about it.
Let's face it, they are extremely poor VFM unless of course you are an expat with a lot of spare cash rattling around, in which case they are invaluable
