I think you will find that FREESAT is on a tight spot beam that
only covers the uk and perhaps part of france and northern spain...

7. Torrents are your friend and not illegal
I think there is a slight subtility here:
Downloading is legal but sharing the downloaded files is not.
So better to properly set up your torrent application to avoid taking any risk :-)

Is Downloading movies for personal use legal here

Is it really legal to download in Switzerland?

Be careful about the dish, check your contract. We just got a letter telling us we had until the end of this month to remove a dish from our balcony. It's small, but it has to go.

I think the beam lobe extends south-east rather than south. Zurich is pretty well on the edge of the 80cm window (100 Km further east I loose the HD signal in the evening and everything else in almost any bad evening weather). I've read reports of Milan needing 120cm..Ticino maybe 100cm. Any locals care to comment?

Look at getting the flat square dish. They are normally accepted

Re: Satellite TV - a novice needs help :)

I would try a local TV shop that provides service setting up satellite installations. You landlord should at least tell you who installed his installation. I've also heard that it may be possible to get internet over the satellite. In any case I think you have to buy a receiver and decryption cards. A local shop should know all this.

Receiver - depends. Many TVs now have sat tuners built in. Might be they are not as sensitive as a dedicated sat tuner which could be an issue with marginal reception.
Card - not for Freeview stations as they are all by definition FTA.
