Re: Cool New Gadget - Google Chromecast

Let's bear in mind that it's a fledgling product and they have plans otherwise they would not have nuked Koush's app to send anything to Cast....

this is a good point. I'm hoping that with the open API other apps can plug into this. it would be great if VLC or AvPlayerHD could cast directly from their apps.

Re: Cool New Gadget - Google Chromecast

Got mine today - doesn't work with Netflix. I guess you need a router with built-in US VPN access, otherwise it'll refuse to play. It's back to the good old Mini-HDMI cable for me then, I guess :-/

Re: Cool New Gadget - Google Chromecast

I'm aware of that (as I indicated in my post) - I'm not going to buy a new router because of Chromecast. And I wouldn't flash DD-WRT (which I can't, as my router isn't supported), either - I finally have a working solution covering all three stories of reinforced concrete ceiling, I'm not going to mess that up

You may not need to do that. Neither did I. It just might happen that with admin access to you present router, you can configure the iptables rules for this simple DNS query redirect workaround. This has been mentioned in my linked XDA post.

Thanks, I was using a workaround by adding soft subtitles using handbrake - also works pretty well

please thank the OP of my linked thread... I think his/her solution is more practical than having to convert each file to one with embedded subtitles with handbrake... or does the conversion go really fast as you are not changing the video/audio encoding format?

I didn't change any encoding and using a VERY old XP machine a 300 MB tv show took between 5-10 mins

Amazon isn't selling them internationally anymore - my guess is that it was just a mistake on their part...

Does anyone know what's now the best place to buy them that ships to Switzerland?

or

Both links above are for Chromecasts already within Switzerland.

Else use ebay.com to find sellers who ship from the USA to Switzerland.

Netflix free for 3 months with Cast
My i7 was pumping a 2.5+Mbps Flash stream to Cast no problem...........share your use case and I'll test
I just got mine and am struggling to play my Netflix. It says 'Content on this page is not supported' and then it says:

tab projection but no audio/video

If you can cast a tab and the page shows on your TV but the video and/or audio isn't playing, this is typically caused by the use of native plug-ins, such as Silverlight or Quicktime, which are not supported.

I don't think I'm using Silverlight or Quicktime. Just netflix connected to Google Chrome. Any ideas?

Re: Cool New Gadget - Google Chromecast

Hi,

do you have the Netflix client on your phone ? Is the phone on the same wifi network as the Chromecast. If you are logged into Netflix on the phone and you choose a film to show all you do is select your Chromecast device from the phone's netflix app and tell it play the film on the Chromecase device...works perfectly.

Have fun
Martin

Re: Cool New Gadget - Google Chromecast

Does anyone else experience increased judder when watching the cast on the TV?

The wifi network has more than enough bandwidth and the signal strength is fine at the chromecast.

If I use media center software, the same stream is smooth. Disappointing for me, especially when the media center software can stream in full HD without any judder, and the chromecast struggles to play 720p smoothly.

Note, this is not lag or start/stop, it's a juddery picture when panning the screen.
