roaming bug - swisscom dropped from three roaming partners? (use sunrise instead)

My three phone stopped working here on Friday 13th.

Still had signal, but "emergency calls only", "not registered on network", etc.

Knowing it normally roams on Swisscom for me, I tried manually selecting that network at tech support's suggestion. Failed to register.

Tech support then said Sunrise was their only roaming partner in CH.

I suspect Swisscom recently stopped being Three UK's roaming partner, and my Galaxy S5 wasn't smart enough to try roaming on to the other networks instead.

So if you have a similar issue: manually select Sunrise as the mobile network.

Re: Free Roaming on Three-UK

Just to clarify a point made earlier, if you use your phone abroad for 'a complete month' more than 3 times within one year, then they will block your 'feel at home' service according to their T&Cs.

Pedantically, since I am here for 6 months and want to try and use 'feel at home' for my whole duration (as I only pay about £13 a month for practically unlimited everything), I tried to find out whether a 'complete month' is a calendar month or a period of 30 days - important, for instance, since I arrived on 15 Jan and first visited UK again 17 Feb (so not a calendar month but more than 30 days). However I had little success in getting an answer to this question, so will see if I get a warning/cut off at any point!

Been here just over 2 months with a couple of visits back to UK and no warning so far!

Too bad we lost Swisscom. Sunrise ain't too shabby these days though.

This is what I assumed had happened when it stopped working.

Anecdata point: I've been abroad most of the last year, and using it continually since CH became a Feel at Home country last summer, and I've not been blocked. My number of "complete months" is around 5.

If they block it -> new SIM(s).

Re: Free Roaming on Three-UK

I’ve just ported my number from Vodafone to three. My understanding is that if you visit a non-feel at home country then the 30 day clock will be reset. Rather than having to get a new sim/number Konstanz is only 32 CHF away with the half-tax card.

Re: Free Roaming on Three-UK

It clearly says "calendar month".

Quote:
Feel At Home is intended for our UK customers who are visiting one of the destinations for short trips, like holidays or business trips. If you only use your plan in a Feel At Home destination for a complete calendar month, and this happens in any three months in any 12 month period, we may suspend international roaming on your account, which would mean you wouldn’t be able to use your phone or device abroad anymore. We’d let you know if this were likely to happen first. If you spend a full calendar month abroad but some of that time is spent in a destination that isn’t included in Feel At Home, this restriction won’t apply.
