unlimited mobile data for €28/month

base.de has a new offer @ €28/month, which includes a German mobile#, a German fixed#, incoming calls throughout the EU+CH+LI+N+IS free, 500MB/month of data included at high speed, after that unlimited but at a reduced speed, calls to Germany free, calls to EU(+) (everything but Germany) @9c/minute.

What I like specifically is that data is usable throughout all EU(+) countries!

As a frequent traveller I might actually replace my Swiss flatrate with this offer, and port my Swiss number to some calls-only solution, not sure about that part yet.

Thought this might be interesting for some.

Drawback: It can only be ordered to a German address. This might be an obstacle.

I have Orange Me with 3GB surf which includes 100MB of EU roaming data. Orange also have an App which let's you monitor both streams of data use in real time.

Orange data tariffs are a complete rip-off for the amount you get.. they are way behind Swisscom and Sunrise in that respect.

35 per month for the 3GB + 100MB of Europe roaming
15 per month for unlimited SMS

50 per month. Taken as a SIM only over 24 months gives a 25CHF discount so 25CHF per month.

You are joking right??
Swisscon is the ultimate rip off, CHF 169 a month for what Orange Charges me CHF50 for i.e. 3GB (+100MB roaming) of data at full speed. That is the operative word, I need a reasonable amount of data (I never use more than a gig) at full 4G goodness. The fact that Swisscon throttles user's speeds based on how much they pay is despicable IMHO, it should be based on data use.

Oh, and another thing.. Spotify and Zattoo on Orange don't count towards your data usage if you add them as options.. happy days indeed

I would rather have a true unlimited 7.2Mbps data connection on a solid network, than a 3GB 20Mbps (the data limit is generally gobbled up much faster) on an often patchy network.

Not only is the increase in speed that 4G gives pretty hard to notice on a phone when out and about, but it means you can tether to all the devices you want (laptop, tablet etc) without there being an issue. With 3GB, that clearly is an issue.

So yeah, from a practical perspective, I'm not joking.

I'm on both networks: Work iPhone 5s on Swisscom and personal LG G2 on Orange and I can tell you for a fact that there is absolutely nothing in it in major centres such as Basel, Zurich, Berne etc.. where I get the same signals and the same data speeds. I actually stream internet radio in my car and from Basel to Zurich and I get a rock solid, almost continuous connection (apart from tunnels of course) on Orange. Yes Swisscom has better overall coverage, but its not commensurate with the ridiculous premium they charge.

Again I'm an urbanite, so YMMV

Re: unlimited mobile data for €28/month

BTW: The base.de allows roaming on Swisscom - so if you´re interested in Data only this might be the solution. Even at reduced speed after the 500MB it´s enough for streaming music.

I have also used both, and Swisscom is noticeably better out in urban areas. However that is a minor point vs the one I made about having a constant unlimited 7.2Gbps connection vs a 3GB 30Mbps one. In reality, if only streaming or browsing etc (as you state your usages), you will realistically notice no difference, except that the unlimited 7.2Mbps connection is much more versatile.

I'm arguing on value. CHF 25 per month on Orange (as per Porsche's post) versus CHF 99 for the equivalent on Swisscom (Infinity M) means its a no brainer for most people on a budget. What actually annoys me about Swisscom is just how inflexible and uncompetitive they are e.g. not offering customers a sim only tariff? or charging CHF 59/mo for a laughable 0.2 Mbit/s surf speed (Infinity XS)

Just to reinforce the point of why I posted this: The biggest advantage of base is that it´s unlimited throughout all of the EU (+ appendices)!

The fact that it´s not with a Swiss number is obviously not very helpful, but for frequent travellers it can be worth it for the unlimited data alone.

(And if you have ties to Germany + frequent travelling it´s sort of a no-brainer?)

it should be more common in future as by 2015, under EU rules, there should be no difference between domestic and roaming rates.

Re: unlimited mobile data for €28/month

I'm on the Business Flex Travel subscription from Orange, which has a base price of 95 CHF but is capped at 125 CHF (roaming is included max 200 min/200 MB)
It offers the same features as the 169 CHF subscription from Swisscom.
Yes, the network and the speed are not always optimal, but since I make plenty of calls abroad it's a good saving. Previously I was on the Sunrise plan for 195 CHF which was overkill. (hint: never let your employer take over your phone number unless you agree in advance what to do with the contract when you quit...)

What is interesting about Base is that the unlimited roaming includes non-EU countries, that's a first in Europe as far as I know.

This does not apply to Switzerland. And European operators until now have not been willing to extend the rule to CH.

Re: unlimited mobile data for €28/month

According to http://www.teltarif.ch/orange-travel...ews/54754.html Orange is significantly lowering their data roaming tariffs for the EU. 20 Fr. gets you 200mb. Once the 200mb is used up, data roaming is automatically disabled until you book another package (just like Swisscom, but cheaper).

Teltarif is saying that Orange is actually cheaper now than what the EU demands of their providers.

The new package is bookable from March 11

Always under the assumtion that we´re talking "data only": Like that you have to pay CHF 20 on top of your overall package, and you get "only" 200mb, while base gives unlimited internet, also in Switzerland.

BTW: The only thing that´s stopping me to get this right now, is that I´d have to find an alternative for domestic Swiss calls.

(I don´t feel like going via a call-through number in Germany all the time.)

the other thing that might be stopping you is that you need a German billing address, a bank account and a credit history before they'll give you a subscription. Also, I doubt they'll simply accept that you spend your entire data allowance in Switzerland.
