DA:I is worth playing, GTA V if you didn't play it on the previous console, forget the rest though ;-)

Oh except Witcher 3, I'm playing that at the moment and it is great!

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

I've got an xbox 360. It's good in most ways but a pain in the ass in terms of being a Brit in Switzerland - the 'Games with Gold' are in German, it's hard to buy stuff because of bank accounts not matching country etc etc

Anyway Microsoft's botched launch and the apparent ease of setting things up on the PS4 in Switzerland in English had me leaning towards joing StirB on the good ship Sony.

There hasn't been any urgency in the decision until the Fallout 4 announcement. By November I'll need to decide one way or the other.

Today Microsoft said the Xbox One would get (some) backwards compatibility with the 360. That's... quite attractive for me.

And I just read an article about it saying:

Quote:
This is a huge move for Microsoft, especially compared to Sony’s lackluster (and pricey) PlayStation Now service, as they pointed out with a great zinger: “We won’t charge you to play the games you already own.”
I have zero idea what PS Now is or if I should care about it.

I'm sure you guys are all happy with your PS4 but what advice would you have for someone in my shoes?

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Just finished Bloodborne last night. Never played Dark Souls 1 or 2, didn't like Demon Souls..but Bloodborne wow! It gives you a real satisfaction of clearing a zone, killing a boss etc. One of the best games I've played in a long long time.

Deciding whether to try for the plat, or move on to Witcher 3.

And for E3 news, waiting to see if Shenmue 3 will actually get made or not.

Tough to say. I have had a PS4 for a good while now (launch day I guess), and I rarely use it. To me, it is really more of a PS3.5 in terms of the step up it has made (in terms of graphics etc). In fact, I still prefer to use my PS3 as a blu ray player.

I suppose I am less of an avid gamer than I used to be. I would typically have had both a PS4 and Xbox One but with this iteration I can really see no need.

Saying that, I feel that you will be happy with either of the latest gen consoles.

I would not worry about backwards compatibility too much, because once these consoles hit their stride (which seems to be taking a long time), why worry about last gen games?

Beardsy, you are welcome to drop by my place to have a fiddle with a few ps4 games and the interface if you'd like.

No need to wait until November though. Buy a new console, get GTA V and simply enjoy! It is sublime and fantastically entertaining. That will take you a month or two to get the most out of already.

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

I second what Krlock says.

Playstation Now is a bit of a faff, maybe it will take off, probably it won't and will be unceremoniously dumped at a later date. I don't think I'd ever want to play a last gen game (esp now the big titles like GTA V and TLoU have been remastered to make use of the PS4's superior grunt) again on my new console though.

As an XBoxer, you won't have played 'The Last of Us' yet, so I'd do what the advice above says, and get invested now, download the remastered games you need to catch up on, and that should keep you busy until the newly rendered Deathclaws are ready to roll out the red carpet.

Be that as it may, and I do agree completely, but it would be awesome if I could play the Crash Bandicoot games or the PSX MGS1 on PS4, even with original graphics... Not everything gets remastered. At least we're getting FFVII; or a promise thereof

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Finally, PS are releasing (have released?) a media player for the PS4; it'll even play .mkv files .

Means I don't have to mess around with Plex any more.

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Thanks, krlock, but StirB's got me a potential deal on a PS4 - I'll probably just go ahead and take it, and maybe keep my Xbox around for when I want a nostalgia trip on Bioshock.

(I played GTA on the xbox, yep it's great. First on my list will be Last of Us.)

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Another reason for ps4, is the Uncharted series. Number 4 will be out next year, and just had a trailer released at the E3 show. Great looking gameplay graphics, finally closer to my expectations for this generation.

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Another +1 for PS4 - yesterday they finally released their long awaited Media Player app, so now you are able to listen to all your music (OK, Spotify was on there already) and video.

Interestingly, the video player supports loads of formats, including the most common torrent/pirated video ones, and now is able to access them from your network / network attached storage, so that's fun.

Or you can keep using the Plex app, whatevs.

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

"Future" PS4 owner with a "current" PS3 here.

I wanted to wait until they announce a PS4 with Ultra-HD Blu-ray playback (something that I expect for 2016-2017).

But now the network board of my PS3 seems to have died. I can't connect either by wifi or wired connection. And just the day my son got Plants vs Zombies as a present for his good grades. Everything else works okay though.

Options:

- Buy a second-hand PS3 to tide me over
- Find and install a wifi board
- Forego online for a year
- Bite the bullet and buy the PS4 now

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

There is by no means any guarantee that sony will release an Ultra HD PS4.

At the moment there are not even any confirmed players of any type.

2017 is far away.

Interdiscount and Microspot have just dropped the price of the current model to CHF 279.* Probably to move units before the 1 TB PS4 arrives.

* 264 on Microspot using promo code MSP2015-15FR

I see that it is the CH version. What are the difference between the CH version and the one that is significantly more expensive?

Thanks for your answer. I am sorry, but what do you mean by Bundled games? Like packs of games? Or game + expansion?

Also, I've read elsewhere that controllers are not region locked :S
