The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Well, following on from the venerable "Playstation 4 vs Xbox One... which will you choose?" thread here... Playstation 4 vs Xbox One... which will you choose?

...I thought it was time we had a dedicated thread for the PS4 so that it doesn't get mixed up with Xbox One stuff.

I intend to buy a PS4 next month when the decent games start to trickle through... and will post any previews and updates in this thread as I find them.

So, to all current and future owners of the PS4... post your likes, dislikes, hints, tips and experiences please. Also game offers you find.

Signing in, but there is already a PS4 thread here. But no-one seems to bother with it any more.

Too much of a preview thread and with the lame poll from when there was hardly any info... lets let it die and keep this one fresh and updated.

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

So, what games are people playing at the moment? Battlefield 4 any good?

I will likely buy a console this weekend and will pick up Tomb Raider and BF4.

---------------------------

I'm also quite surprised how much cheaper games are in the UK vs here, between 30 and 50% cheaper. Especially as the console is actually around 25% cheaper here in CH!

Three main places I can see that have really good deals and ship here are:

Amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/b/ref=sv_vg_...ode=2574536031

Zavvi.co.uk (free delivery too) http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/ps4.dept

And also always keep an eye on Hotukdeals for the best deals, as many also ship over to us here too... http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/last...29-psn-1935278

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

I'm playing Watch Dogs when I get the chance; really enjoying it so far. Also started CoD, but not played for a while. Also have Castle Wolfenstein, but not fired it up yet.
It's crazy the difference in game prices between UK and here, all mine except Killzone (which was a gift along with the console) were purchased in the UK or ordered from Amazon.

I played BF4 on the PC, but not on a console. Played a lot, but then the PS4 arrived so I've neglected it. It's a nice game though, with some great maps and is probably the best online shooter you'll come across.

I got Titanfall delivered on release from Amazon UK and they took the VAT off for me automatically. Makes it even cheaper!

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

I have BF4 and Assassins Creed, both very good. BF4 was bought here and is in English, AC in the UK.

I have also downloaded for free the online warplanes shooter War Thunder, as well as the Alpha for Destiny and a couple of ok freebies from PSN.

My id is Whitters1uk.

I only have watch dogs, but I have to say that I'm not particularly invested on the story. Waiting for Uncharted 4

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Does anyone else use a US PSN account to buy games etc here? Does it result in a real risk of your console being banned, or is the chance negligible in reality?

I use a UK account and pay with a Swiss Credit Card - nobody seems to care and I figure if they start to care, I'll just buy vouchers on e-bay and use that to fund my wallet.

I had to make a new PS account though, as my PS3 one was on the Swiss store (which was a huge PitA, so glad I can get UK stuff now) - will PM anyone who wants it.

Currently playing Watch Dogs and Sniper Elite III, enjoying both, but wouldn't say they are near the calibre of GTA/Bioshock/Elder Scrolls/Mass Effect series or anything. Next thing I am really looking forward to is Dragon Age.

Having said that, if we can get a decent group of people from here, I'd love to have a bit of a play around on Evolve, should be a good laugh! Please send me a PM with your PS account if you fancy it.

I am definitely up for some multiplayer action StirB, Evolve multiplayer looks awesome, as does Destiny etc etc. Even The Last of Us is supposed to have great multiplayer.

By the way, did you exchange your HD yet? I just bought a Hitachi Travelstar 1TB hard drive and its meant to be a big improvement over the stock one for loading times etc. Will swap it as soon as I get my PS4.

And finally, if you have any games you're sick of I have a Wanted threa dhere: WANTED: Playstation 4 Games [Zurich]

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Some good game deals...

----------------------------------

The last of Us Remastered, one of the best story-driven games of all time, for 53chf delivered @ Zavvi.co.uk http://www.zavvi.com/games-ps4/the-l...10944339.html?

That's 15chf cheaper than the cheapest Swiss price for an English version..... http://www.alcom.ch/index.php?hm=suc...nummer=s450432

----------------------------------

And Rayman Legends, apparently being hailed as one of the best platformers ever made, 27.50chf delivered @ Zavvi.co.uk.... http://www.zavvi.com/games-ps4/rayma...ductsuggestion

That is 15+chf cheaper than the cheapest Swiss price for just a German version (can't find English)... https://www.digitec.ch/?param=toppreise&wert=292265

----------------------------------

Good savings there (and I bought all three)!

Interesting call on the HDD - I will look into it now! Would be good for me as I am going 100% download, no discs uglying up my minimalist living room from now on!

EDIT:
Seems at present, there aren't really any SSD drives that improve performance enough to justify the spend...

The hard drive is this one here https://shop.digitec.ch/en/s1/produc...d-drive-434727

7200rpm and 32MB cache so very quick. Tests were done and it wasn't much slower at all than Hybrid and SSD drives... whereas the stock 500GB drive is much slower http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-upgrade-guide

EDIT - Drive received today. Will do the upgrade tomorrow and report back!

Re: The Playstation 4 Current/Future Owners Thread

Well, the HD swap went without a hitch, 5 minutes work and now everything is smoother.

Still haven't received the games I ordered but currently playing Trine 2: Complete Story, which is absolutely amazing. Seriously, if you haven't checked this out yet then I suggest you do so asap, it is a gorgeous platformer and story-driven RPG with a loving attention to detail and local and online multiplayer options. It also plays in 3D, which also looks impressive. Pretty amazing for 12... Id probably have happily paid 30!

Also purchased Child of Light which is meant to be great, and I love the art style. Some really good lower-priced games on there actually.

How much quicker are you actually finding it? If I upgraded to say a 500gb SSD, am I going to notice a huge difference?

Load times are quicker. SSD makes little difference, much better to get the 1TB http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-upgrade-guide
