I am moving to Basel next week, is it worth shipping my Philips 23PF4321 - 23" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV? Will it work and will I have to pay tax on importing it?

Whether the TV will work: I guess it depends where you come from and how the eletricity supply is where you are. The electricity in Switzerland is 220V/50 Hz. For ex. my TV was bought in Spore and works here.

Now for the taxes, I assume the same applies as for a move: used items are not taxable.

Yes, you can. It is very easy - I did exactly the same last year. No, you won't have to pay anything to import it - it will be included as part of your household goods as far as customs are concerned. Don't think of dumping it and buying a replacement TV here - it will cost you an arm and a leg.
