Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

I read on another thread a while ago that Lycamobile didn't work well with Whatsapp. I don't know if that's the case today.

Could anyone currently using Lycamobile confirm this? I wonder because I thought Lycamobile is using Swisscom network? I am using Swisscom and it works well with Whatsapp. Or is there actually a difference afterall between Swisscom and Swisscom-network of Lycamobile?

Technically, Lyca probably could block certain apps, but I doubt they would.

Well, Whatsapp is important for me. Maybe I would abandon the idea of choosing Lyca just because they don't support Whatsapp. Anyone can confirm?

For me it is hard to believe that there is a network in modern Europe that would prevent Whatsapp from working or indeed as the other thread suggest not receive registration confirmation sms from whatsapp (or other apps).

having said that, it is a cheap experiment to test, one would need to get a free lyca sim, put it in a mobile connect to wifi and try to register and connect then use whatsapp to see if it works or not...

Well, I think the test should be trying to connect to whatsapp using the 3G network of lyca. Of course it would work with wifi as it is independent of the phone network? Or do I miss something?

based on what I read on the other thread, the issue was not whatsapp not working because of the 3G/4G network but the fact that the user was unable to register the app ie in the initial step when you typed your phone number to register your new phone you did not get the confirmation sms back because of the phone numbering system that Lyca uses.

Having said that and even if what you say is true, then its a simple 5CHF experiment, so one would put 5CHF on sim, get a 500MB data bundle (3.25CHF) enable 3G/4G network and initialise the app and see what happens.

Again to me, it is somewhat far fetched although not impossible.

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

BTW, one other thing to tip the scales in favor of M-Budget, is that Swisscom shops will typically give you support for M-Budget abos, as well as M-Electronics stores. I'm not familiar with Lyca, but I assume any help/support will have to be done with them over phone/e-mail and not in person.

I am actually looking to convert my Swisscom contract to one of the prepaids. Wondering if it makes any difficulties for the conversion...?

simple answer no, unless you need human interaction. in which case m-budget is better as you can do the paperwork at an actual shop as appose to online with lyca.

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

One issue I have with Lyca with the iPhone is that the personal hotspot is not activated (i get a "Contact provider" message when I try to turn it on).
Called the Help line and the person told me that this is currently not supported by Lyca.
Which is crap as I tried it with a CoopMobile sim and the personal hotspot worked perfectly.

Lycamobile just extended their free credit(topup with CHF200 and get another CHF250) offer till 30.11.2014. with all the other offers bundles prices and join in bonus it seams to be the best option on the market at the moment for pay as you go!

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

I've only had one issue with them....at the beginning when I tried to turn on 4G data on my iphone, I received a warning that this provider is not certified for 4G and that I will likely have problems. It took about a day....but then the LTE kicked it and I was really impressed how fast it goes. The prices seem really, really competitive.

The prices seem too good, especially the bundles. Im still unsure if I want to port my number if they could get significantly expensive in a few months. (all bundles are a limited time offer)

Is it possible to port a number to Lyca or M-budget, but if not happy with the service, port back to the original provider? Has anyone had first hand experience with this?

Yes no issue with doing that what so ever, you can port your number at any time providing you give the notice period expressed in your current provider's T&C's.

Lyca would be great but it seems like they don't support data roaming - unless anyone knows otherwise?

Thanks.

The lycamobile EU19 bundle actually includes 300min & 300sms + 500MB of data at 19CHF, if I add another 500MB of data with surf 500MB for 3.25CHF. I am still better off (total cost 22.25CHF) obviously comparing it to m-budget's one deal (500min+500sms+1GB internet) I am still missing 200 min & 200 sms but it really depends on the how much calling/sms the user needs.
That's not possible according to their T&Cs:
"A customer may have only one offer on their account and may not buy another during the 30 day validity period."

The data bundles are listed under "offer"

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

How can they make WhatsApp usage "free" if the communication goes, as with all smartphone apps, through the regular data connection (i.e. either WiFi or mobile networks, 2/3/4G)?
I don't believe they have a way of "knowing" what is the real "source" of data going through their network, but it's just me.
