How can they make WhatsApp usage "free" if the communication goes, as with all smartphone apps, through the regular data connection (i.e. either WiFi or mobile networks, 2/3/4G)?
I don't believe they have a way of "knowing" what is the real "source" of data going through their network, but it's just me.
Yes they do. You see every app has a signature and a specific port it uses to access the service it provides and connects to a specific server.

That is how the providers can control which app they account for the subscribers given mobile data or not, basically not calculate that data usage as a part of the monthly allocated data given to the subscriber.

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

If you are on a Swisscom or M-Budget subscription, you can change to M-Budget One. Just send an SMS message with the text MBUDGETONE to the number 444. You will receive the confirmation of the activation of the new plan via SMS.

Previously, if you were on Swisscom and wanted to port your number to M-Budget One, you had to transfer it first to a Swisscom prepaid number and from there to M-Budget. Not anymore.

You can also switch from M-Budget One to M-Budget Prepaid without the 60 day notice. Surprising but true. We found this out since we wanted to take advantage of this iPhone 6 offer for 150chf but you had to come from prepaid:

Which is the best deal I've seen on an iPhone 6 with such a low monthly cost abo.

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

Never the less, I still think lycamobile is the better option for the following reasons:
- if one migrates their phone number from another provider, they get 10CHF on the account every month for 3 months

*I ported my number in 6 months ago, and to date have received ZERO
bonus money or points or anything for doing so. When I asked CS they
promised to look into it and promptly forgot about me. 5x asking
resulted in waste of time and no money..

- if one tops up for 200CHF then one gets another 250CHF added to the account (not sure if this is still valid but it is on their site)

Yes I topped up 100F got the bonus but the bonus can ONLY BE USED
for CALLS/TEXTS. So you cant buy a data bundle for example.

- one can combine a call/sms/data bundle with a separate data only bundle
- 4G data is standard where available
- 30 day validity for all bundles plus 30 day notice (if migrating) or non if leaving Switzerland
- uses Swisscom network with better coverage then any of the other providers in Switzerland[/QUOTE]

the last few points are quite valid and good value..

M-Budget Mobile One too successful? Swisscom removes plan from its own website.

Swisscom denies it, of course.
