You can even use your monthly minutes to call abroad in Europe!

If you compare it with "The Abo" from Swiss Post/Orange, the M-Budget plan is cheaper and comes with a bigger data package (1GB vs 500MB). On the other hand, the Post plan offers unlimited calls and SMSs. But most people don't call that much anyway.

Also M-Budget uses the Swisscom network.

A quick correction, this does not seam to be a 4G service, reading the "more information" section on the service it mentions Highspeed internet but then
says "Surfen Sie mit Highspeed im Internet (max. 42 Mbit/s Download max 4.0 Mbit/s Upload)" in other words its actually a 3G+ or HSPA service. What a pitty they cut corners on such things that make customers simply put off!

Well caught, did not even see that but correct you can use the 500min to call Europe landline only zone 1-3 which actually includes more countries then Das-Abo from the post eg Singapore, Canada, Korea, Australia and Japan just to name a few.

Also to add, calls to other m-budget phones is free of charge.

So I now have one more choice other than Lyca, as they both use Swisscom network...

mobile change : Swisscom to what? (same number)

What do you think?

Yes indeed you do have more choice, but they are not quite apple to apple comparison. Having said that, they both (in my opinion) offer more then enough minutes for an average user. I guess to me Lyca still has the option of getting more data if one wants to while m-budget does not give that option ie after you use the 1GB allowance, it is 10Rb/MB.

It really depends on your usage.

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

A quick comparison it seems to me it is :

Lyca 19 Fr. + 500mb
Migros 29 Fr. + 1 Gb.

I heard from somewhere 500mb is actually sufficient as I don't intend to stream a lot....So Lyca is still at advantage here.

I would agree. Another advantage of lyca is the No notice period ie if you decide to leave Switzerland then it is a simple matter of not putting any more money on your account and your number will disappear in 4 months.

While with M-buget they still need a 60 day notice from you [bottom of the 3rd paragraph].

Different companies have different conditions, Lyca is clear, see paragraph 3.4 of the T&C's

"If you do not use your SIM Card to make a voice call, or send a message or data, or if you do not purchase a top-up using the Top-Up Services, for a period of one hundred and fifty (150) days from the date you registered or activated your Account or your last use of the Services (whichever is later), Lycamobile will contact you by SMS or e-mail advising you that your SIM Card will be deactivated. Lycamobile will then provide you with an additional thirty (30) days to make a voice call, send a message or data, or purchase a top-up using the Top-Up Services"

At yallo you can have unlimited calls to all Swiss network + Europe + 1 Gb for 39 Fr.
At Lyca if you top up 100 Fr you receive 220 Fr which means the real cost of 19 Fr is just 8.6 Fr.

Yes, in this sense Migros could be better as I actually just need to make one call or SMS a year within the last top-up. So maybe Migros is ideal for people who can't even finish the monthly quota...

Re: Migros Mobile: M-Budget New tariff offers

the Migros FAQ confirms it's not LTE. But the coverage and data speeds are going to be more than adequate.....I often don't have LTE on my full fat Swisscom and on my phone I'm happy with reasonable speeds.

Lyca now has 1GB for 5.90CHF, 2GB for 11.90 CHF (on prepaid; I don't know if you talk strictly about postpaid options).

+ extra 10CHF first 3 months
+ extra CHF for each top-up
Seems great to me.

I'm switching today, from Orange, where I can't even check how much data do I have left.

Is there any "hidden gems" with Lyca I should consider?

I recently got a "hidden gem" from Lebara.nl (which is a similar budget cell network here in NL). If you buy a data bundle (500m) which is valid for 30 days and use it up, there is no way to get another bundle until these 30 days are over. Meanwhile you'll be using "per mb" rate which drains your balance rather quickly.

No we are actually talking about PRE-PAID option of Lyca. Apparently the 19 CHF is for a complete package (call + mobile plan) but the link here shows only the mobile plan?!

Indeed according to what I read, that is the case with lycamobile.ch also, but according to a user experience in this thread, that is not the case and he was able to refill 3 times different data bundles in a single month.

Never the less, I still think lycamobile is the better option for the following reasons:
- if one migrates their phone number from another provider, they get 10CHF on the account every month for 3 months
- if one tops up for 200CHF then one gets another 250CHF added to the account (not sure if this is still valid but it is on their site)
- one can combine a call/sms/data bundle with a separate data only bundle
- 4G data is standard where available
- 30 day validity for all bundles plus 30 day notice (if migrating) or non if leaving Switzerland
- uses Swisscom network with better coverage then any of the other providers in Switzerland

But to call inside CH you are paying per minute 0.29CHF to land-lines and 0.45CHF to mobiles. And 0.15CHF for SMS's out of network. Plus 10CHF for 1GB data/month. That's all going to add up pretty quick.

M-Budget's package for 30CHF includes 500 minutes in all CH nets (fixed+mobile, and even some fixed EU lines), 500 SMS to anywhere, and 1GB data. That looks like a better deal to me. The only negative is you don't get on the 4G net, but the 3G net is very good, so not a big deal.

The lycamobile EU19 bundle actually includes 300min & 300sms + 500MB of data at 19CHF, if I add another 500MB of data with surf 500MB for 3.25CHF. I am still better off (total cost 22.25CHF) obviously comparing it to m-budget's one deal (500min+500sms+1GB internet) I am still missing 200 min & 200 sms but it really depends on the how much calling/sms the user needs.
