Quickline fiber optic in Bern

This has been suggested as an alternative to swisscom or sunrise and on screen it looks pretty good to me
Here is a link http://www.quickline.ch/privatkunden...ne-platin.html

Anyone out there got any comments or experience of this company in Bern?
200mbit/s vs 60 we can get with the other 2 seems very attractive!

Re: Quickline fiber optic in Bern

We had quickline in Belp 3 years ago and it was great (it was energie belp, but used quickline) Not sure it was that fast but when we moved to Winti in 2012 and had swisscom dsl (no fiber available) there was a noticeable decrease in quality.

Re: Quickline fiber optic in Bern

If you are renting an apartment, the first question has to be, "Which type of cable supplies the house?" (Co-axial, fiber optic, or simple copper wires)

The owner of the house decides which cable supplier to use and you have to go along with that. Or you might be forced to use Swisscom / Sunrise and receive TV / Internet over the telephone cable. (Not the best choice imo)

Quickline might be present, or UPC-Cablecom, (or you might be stuck with ADSL, but most unlikely in Bern town).

I don't know much about Quickline: I believe they own the fiber optic cable networks and sometimes other companies use their cables.

UPC-Cablecom has a wide network of co-axial cable and you can check if UPC-Cablecom is available at any address, by using this tool,
http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/tools/availability-check/
.

I'm with Quickline and I have the 100Mbit option and it reacheas the full bandwidth any time of the day without failure. Not that you have a lot of options to saturate this kind of bandwidth. It also never had any downtime which I have noticed.

Ping times to some common websites (for comparison sake).
www.google.com 26ms
www.microsoft.com 14ms
www.englishforum.ch 36ms
www.search.ch 9ms

I don't think 200Mbit is any more useful than 100Mbit, so save yourself some francs. Keep in mind you'd need Gbit Ethernet network infrastructure and/or Wifi in 802.11ac to utilise over 100Mbit in practice.

We have had Quickline for four years now. Six of us in the household, including four bandwidth-hungry teenagers. No TV - everyone streams. I just downgraded from 50MB/s to the lowest bandwidth (20Mb/s), and it's still plenty.

Good luck. Regarding the choice of bandwidth/package, you can go up without notice, but there are minimum notice periods if you're going down. That's how it works with ours, anyway.

In other words, it doesn't hurt to start low and then increase as necessary.
