In need of laptop recommendations

Like the title says. I am looking for a laptop as my iPad isnt doing enough for my needs anymore and I have no idea what to get.

I am looking for a good amount of storage, easy to work with, trouble free. I ain't playing games, need to use it for pictures, organization, studying, organizing, music, more organization....

I am seriously thinking of mac pro retina display 13.3 inch. Never been a Mac conouter owner before.

Last experience was an HP with major defects, a total lemon, build with windows vista.

I got totally disgusted.

Need the help of my geek peeps!

Nil

Good choice. Go for the Mac Pro. The Air if you are ok with lesser power but want longer battery life.

If you really want Windows, then there are a multitude of options depending on budget and wants.

For your needs, Air would be fine. You will appreciate the weight and battery life in the long run.

Re: In need of laptop recommendations

I have a Macbook Air but I am not a fan of Mac OS and never have been. I bought it mainly because I love the form factor, build quality and the battery life is pretty epic.

However I was in Interdiscount last week and had a play with the new Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 and it is an absolute beast. Fantastic build quality, innovative hinge design and Touch enabled so you can use it as a tablet or PC. I would swap my MBA for one of these in a heartbeat.

The Yoga Pro 3 is a great choice. I nearly forgot about it.

Any old s**t will do the job from a technical point of view - seriously.

The trouble with getting a Mac is you may hate using Mac OS and there will be the inevitable learning curve - especially if you're not a techie.
It's a risk.

Otherwise, go along to Media Markt and choose a laptop that looks nice and feels nice because as I wrote - any of them will do the job.

Re: In need of laptop recommendations

See what's on offer - as long as it's minimum of i5 processor.

Par example:

http://www.interdiscount.ch/idshop/p...187/detail.jsf

Or

http://www.interdiscount.ch/idshop/p...197/detail.jsf

Interdiscount offering 15% off HP and Compaq lappys at the moment.

http://www.interdiscount.ch/idshop/_...le2/detail.jsf

I would never by another HP laptop due to their shockingly bad customer service. They basically denied and refused to fix what was then a well known and well established fault with their Pavilion line where the GPU would fail after about 18 months (in my case). So after being given the runaround by HP for weeks I ended up selling a £1000 laptop for scrap value on ebay and vowed never again.

Well you could say the same about the older MacBook Pros. They all had a graphics card that failed (in our case after the warranty ran out).

It's all a bit of a lottery with both brands and retailers - ID being an obvious candidate, too.

Personally never had problems with ID, with three lappys purchased; and one had to be repaired under warranty (over-heating, due to faulty fan) - done without quibble and back in two weeks.

However, I think the Envy range is a fair bit better than the Pavilions.

An other thing to add on my list would be to have a Canadian keyboard and English programs. We have been looking into buying it in Canada and having ship over, etc.

Is a Canadian keyboard different to a US one?

Ah yes, it probably has an 'eh' key.

(Appreciate that it will have French letters)

I would say the exact opposite of above.

You can also install Windows or Linux on a Mac with BootCamp.

The functionality of Computer, Mobile, tablets and TV are converging. Interoperability between them is getting more interesting and important. There are probably 2 or 3 camps; Apple, Microsoft and Google. I happen to have all 3, but majority on Apple, and its a hassle to get them to all work well together. I might have to get a cheap android tablet just to use as a TV remote control, because the TV has an android OS.

I think if you standardize on one platform, you can get them to all work well together. I would recommend Apple, because you don't need technical knowledge to use it. You just spend a little more money for them.

I used to teach illustrator and Photoshop on a Mac without having ever worked with one. The most annoying part was the lack of the right click button.

There are rumours of new mac book airs to be announced soon with a new retina Macbook Air 12" among them. I would wait a tad longer, if he old laptop has not died out completely

After which, there will be another rumour a new Mac product is on the way !

What ever you buy today, you cxan be 110% sure there is something newer already in a shipping container, already moving to your market for sales in 3/4 months time

If you need it, buy it, if you can wait, wait until you need it, but the old one may pack up unexpectedly, leaving a gap. Can you accept being without for a week or two ?
