moving with UPC - praise and problem

Honour to whom honour is due: After 5 years without any noteworthy problem with UPC, I moved. What can I say? Unplugged the modem in the old flat, plugged into the wall in the new flat, and: It worked! Unreal!

One hickup though, not sure what to do: The modem first synchronised in room 1 without problem. Later I wanted to move it to room 2, it did not synchronise. Back to room 1: Works. Back to room 2: Works, but stops after 1 hour or so. Since then it´s consistent: Works in room 1, but not in room 2. It´s just strange!

Am I doing something wrong here, or should I report this to UPC and/or the landlord?

Maybe the house wiring? Try doing the installation again?

I moved about 2 years ago, also everything worked like clockwork. I now have the Thomson modem, a telephone, and 2 TVs with the Digicards, it is worthwhile following the installation instructions, at first I didn't, and I couldn't receive all my channels...

I take the Digicard with me when I travel, then I can sometimes watch my subscription channels with the BBC / ITV programs (No, not any porno channels...)

Re: moving with UPC - praise and problem

I had a similar problem in my apartment, if I plugged the modem in my living room where the main coax was, it working fine, but if I would move it to another room where there was a slave coax cable, wouldn't work.

Cablecom sent their technician who measured and noticed that the signal was weak on the second cable, the signal needed amplifier if you wanted to have the modem in the other room. The amplifier could go on top of the building (you will need permission from neighbors etc) or it could go where the main cable is. I decided to place an amplifier on the main cable because it gives me a clean space in my living room (the amplifier is in the wall and is not bigger than the modem). Since than the modem in the second room works no problem. I have a lot of stuff attached on the modem so it's really not possible to have it in the living room. I think the amplifier was around 100 something CHF. You might have the same problem.
