Free TV in Switzerland, what do I need?

Hi,

I've a Cablecom broadband and my Italian Sky satellite.

No, I'd like to receive Swiss/German channels in order to practise some german understanding.

What do I need?

I guess a receiver and a cable?

Will I be able to receive DE channels or only Swiss German speaking ones?

Danke.

Hi,

Since you've got internet, there's one alternative which doesnt require any additional hardware. I'm using this website. (Registration is free of course)

http://teleboy.ch/

to watch a lot of TV Stations.. not only from Germany, but also their Swiss regional stations. Quality is great.

Or since you're a cablecom customer, google a bit for Horizon Go.. I dont know if your contract includes it, but I was pretty much forced to accept it a few months ago - had only the internet access till then

Or Zattoo which is also free for the basic service which also allows recording of programmes ( up to 20 or 50 can't remember which) which will be kept for up to 21 days.
There is also the paid version which costs 65chf a year but can there are also monthly or 3 monthly subscriptions available.

Personally, out of the two suggestions, I find Zattoo much more user friendly.

Free version gives recording (online storage on Zattoo servers) of 20 programs, each available for 20 days.

A subscription of 20,00 for 3 mths. or 65,00 for a year, eliminates commercials, gives better picture quality, and 250 recorded programs, valid indefinitely (all the time sub. is active), plus recall of any program broadcast in the last 7 days.

well if you have cablecom (even though just internet) and a TV then you should be able to receive the basic channels on your TV, here is the list.

if you don't have a TV then Horizon go should also be an option to investigate.

I agree about the user interface, but for several Italian channels Teleboy provides better quality than Zattoo.

The Swiss German channels are on the same satellite as Sky Italia. Do you have a DVB-S input on your Tv ? if so you only need a Helvetica cam and a cards from https://www.broadcast.ch/portal.aspx?pid=200

The major Swiss German channels are already part of your Cablecom (TV) package: http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/tools/...-basisangebot/

So - once you have Cablecom, you also have Cablecom TV, you have German-speaking channels.

Do not pay for anything on top.

A digital TV (DVB-C), and plug it into the hole in the wall

Because you have broadband, you also have cable TV, So plug in and enjoy loads of digital TV channels, no extra box required

What you receive is dependent on your location
