Power extension cord with remote / SIM card reset capability

My modem or router (or my computer) seem to freeze and block the internet connection every 2-3 weeks and I need to reset them. I am searching for a simple automatic solution, a power cord that has internet capability (checks periodically for internet connection, if none - power cycle) or a power cord with SIM card so when you send SMS it reboots. Do such products exist today (plug and play) because searching on google gave me nothing.

Simple plug timer that restarts the router at 04:00 every day?

Won't work, as it might get stuck at 13:00 and I need access to that computer, not at all times but most likely at 16:00 than it doesn't really work. It would need to set to power cycle either when there is no more internet connection or when it receives SMS.

OK, then it's not just a case of the router being a bit rubbish and being up for too long for its own liking?
Anyway - IP watchdog lite or something? Not sure how much it costs.

or something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aviosys-Powe...GH27MXEP6NXYB4 . Only 100GBP

Have a look at these pictures and chose something. .

Since your internet connection can't be used, it would have to be a GSM solution. But, for the costs involved, it would probably be better to solve the original problem with your existing fixed connection.

Re: Power extension cord with remote / SIM card reset capability

fix the problem. You must be able to fault out one or the other.

- provider?
- modem = cable modem?
- router = ?
- computer - running which OS?

Consider if you have cable and use two devices to put the modem in bridging mode. This might help.

Are you sure it's not an IP address change that looks like an outage? Get a DynDNS or similar client on the PC or have the PC be logged into something like Gmail and you can see when the IP changes.

Re: Power extension cord with remote / SIM card reset capability

I used to have this problem with Cablecom,

Turns out it was a problem with my settings on Windows, where I had to disable "Turn Off Device to save power".

You can find this in Device Manager. Find the problematic wireless device via "Network Adaptors" right click to properties then to the Power Management tab, uncheck the option to allow Windows to turn off this device.

If this doesn't work maybe try another router (borrow a spare one from someone).

Also try removing the cable connected to your router from the socket for about 30 seconds and reconnect to get a new IP. There may be conflicts between other devices.

Re: Power extension cord with remote / SIM card reset capability

There are quite a few power sockets that you can switch on/off/reboot with SMS commands. More sophisticated models include thermostats etc. (as one popular use is remote switching on/off of heatings in holiday homes etc.)

https://www.google.ch/search?q=gsm+power+socket
https://www.google.ch/search?q=gsm+schaltsteckdose

This is the cheapest offer I found right now:
http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00PYJ677M/
http://www.gsm-one.de/shop2/index.ph...oduct&info=159
GSM-Schaltsteckdose DRH-301-LITE.
Price: EUR 49.- plus shipping
(EUR 3.- to Germany and EUR 12.- to Switzerland on amazon.de,
EUR 4.50 to Germany, EUR 16.- to Switzerland on gsm-one.de)

Other models and vendors etc:
