Re: The Apple Watch Thread

Hi,

all software has bugs but now my wife uses Apple gadgets always waits until the first or second set of bug fixes out as she has had too many problems with the Apple's first releases of software. To be honest I think it is the best advice is to wait.

On the other hand I am still on the insider program for Windows 10 and so every so often a new build is automatically installed on my machine...and I have had less problems than wife has had with IOS updates i.e none.

Have fun
Martin

Re: The Apple Watch Thread

Well of course I finally bought one a week ago.. And dammit i kinda like it. I usually don't like a square watch full stop but i'm getting used that. I thought it would be totally pointless to control music when usually the phone is in my hand anyway .. But as i found on Friday night it's handy to control the music when the phone is by the bose speaker thingy across the room and voice recognition works really well even for sottish english .. "Play some bagpipe music" And i can respond pretty well to msg or whatsapp using voice.
Being an admin of a FB group of 18k members i get a lot of messages! Having a quick look on the wrist is pretty good compared to the phone.

The health stuff - unsure, it's probably fine for general walking around but it's not for proper running/cycling. No Ant+ just like the phone and you need the phone for GPS.. Today while out cycling it measured my heart rate every ten minutes.. My garmin HRM monitors constantly and the difference in numbers is night and day . After a particularly steep climb i maxed out in garmin at 183bpm and averaged 152bpm over 50km or so.. The watch didn't record anything over 110bpm.

It's fun, it's quite nice, reasonably useful .. 700chf well spent, i'm not sure.

Why I'm getting rid of my Apple Watch
By Castro

So I've had the watch for a month now, plenty of time to put it through its paces and my thoughts are as follows.
  • I miss my conventional watches. The idea is that you always wear your Apple Watch, but I for one like to mix it up a little.
  • I hate the activity tracking on this, the silly coloured rings hide the core information that I want to know e.g. number of steps. My Fitbit did a much better job, and I wore it on the opposite wrist to my conventional watch.
  • There are almost no situations where its socially acceptable to play around with your watch, but not your phone. Either way people in meetings will glower at you.
  • You have to lift the watch up to see the time, otherwise you are looking at a black screen. At least with the Pebble Smartwatch the screen is always on, which is better for passive glances.
  • The rectangular face hasn't really grown on me, I prefer circular watch faces
  • I find the navigation to be clunky.. its certainly better after the last Watch OS update, but still some way to go. Its also quite slow in opening certain apps as it has to transfer info to and from your phone.

Obviously there are many positives and things I'm going to miss e.g. controlling music player, brilliant notifications, having an activity tracker and watch all in one etc... but on balance its not enough to save it from Ricardo.

...blaah
Pretty much same for me.. I'm only a couple of weeks in but heading the same way I'm sure .. I have 4 or 5 watches i like but feel like i need to keep the apple one on. Prefer round face although it's grown on me a bit. I mentioned previously the sports stuff is rubbish ..

I'll probably hold off a few weeks but if i got a decent off now it would go..

Black one anybody? sapphire screen version..?
