about mobile internet from orange at 30chf/month

has anyone seen the offer to get internet at 30chf/month from orange via an aerial that picks up the 4G signals? you can have this aerial in your house and also take it with you wherever you go in switzerland. it seems like a great offer to me, what with my upc monthly rent about 70chf, but maybe there are catches or maybe it's not as good as i'm imagining.

then i thought: ask ef!

Re: about mobile internet from orange at 30chf/month

orange / salt bought the worst 4g license so coverage isn't so great, and gets worse in doors (eg almost impossible) you get what you pay for

Most of the time (if not always) these plans have quite low data caps.

Make sure you read the fine print and that your usage patterns are not heavy video consumption e.g., as that would send you over any pre-paid data package into the abyss of overcharges that would be astronomical and would definitely a new thread in the rants corner of EF

I would definitely say it depends on where you're living and where you're situated most of the time. I've never ever had a problem getting good 4G signal, apart for the dead zone that is my work desk. No cell reception, no office wifi, just a pain in the ass.

If you put salt on oranges, it can only turn sour.

Re: about mobile internet from orange at 30chf/month

I guess it's this one you're looking at. According to the Salt site CHF 35 per month unlimited and seems like no throttling if you have a high data volume. If you have a good 4G signal where you are mostly active could be interesting.

Re: about mobile internet from orange at 30chf/month

under orange the 35f/month unlimited was actually limited to 100GB..
I have no idea about salt, but im betting its the same.. I blow through
300gb a month avg with video, downloads, backups.. so orange mobile
was not an option. Also Orange has the WORST signal foot print, with
only 2g in my area. Ive had better coverage with SUNRISE///

Your Milage may vary.

And for GODS SAKE dont be an idiot and take out a 12 month contract. get the 30 day contract.
Easy to nuke if coverage or service levels change... its what I do ..

Could you point to where it states the 100GB limit?
A friend of mine has been using this plan for home internet, thanks to my advice of ditching the swisscom fix internet. Speed and signals are very good, but have never gone over 100GB though, so I'm interested to know if this limit is official/explicit or unofficial/implicit.

Re: about mobile internet from orange at 30chf/month

the 100gb limit was pointed out to me by several sales people over
the months as a feature.. when i mentioned the unlimited part..
again its something you have to take for granted as they refused
to put it in writing when i asked about it..

In my corner of paradise the 4G signal is strong and rock solid. More to the point in most of the border towns I get 3/4G quite a distance inland whilst Swisscom has given up and switched to roaming.

Anyway I always advise the same thing, invest in 3 X PAYG sims and thoroughly test the signal in your most frequently visited areas. What some user in Ticino or Geneva experiences with a particular network is completely irrelevant.

The salt coverage map looks very good in Zurich and all round the lake, only in less populated areas does it fall back.

Re: about mobile internet from orange at 30chf/month

What happened to the "when we say unlimited, we mean really unlimited"!
Anyway, I wonder after the 100GB, what speed it will be downgraded to, 2G, EDGE?

is this for a mobile phone sim or for the take-home aerial at 35/chf month? i.e. is there a limit of 100gb to the home aerial? the guy in the shop told me unlimited
