Changing mobile phone operator...

- I'm not happy with my current operator (Salt) and want to change.
- My contract with them will end soon, and the deadline to cancel the contract is in one week (otherwise it will get renewed automatically).
- I have not decided to whom I will go next.

Can I do like this?
- I notify Salt to cancel (not renew) my contract, but keep my number as pre-pay.
- Then I decide later with whom I will sign a new subscription.

Is this feasible? What I understand is that if you switch from a Salt subscription to a Salt pre-pay number, later on you can transfer to another operator at any time? Am I right?

My wife has very recently switched from a SALT pre-paid to a Swiss-com pre-pay.

So yes. Change from a SALT subscription to a SALT pre-pay and then later change the Pre-pay to another company.

Swiss-com took about a month to screw up the switch but they set the existing number on divert to a temporary number.
Of course then there's the ridiculous set up with Swiss-com wifi using up your 3G allowance....

Re: Changing mobile phone operator...

Cancel your contract before the deadline, then buy a new PAYG SIM, and port your number.

Most phone operators should be able to do this - although some insist on cocking it up ..... allegedly.

I'm with Aldi Suisse Mobile, and they proclaim to do it (port number).

Aldi Suisse proclaim they cock it up?? There's brutal Aldi honesty for you

I can confirm from personal experience that all three major networks cock up any sort of transfer, and inevitably blame the other side.

I've also done prepay to contract - even within Orange it was a spectacular fail (the number ended up in some sort of limbo where the prepay SIM worked, but accounts thought the number was still contract and thus I couldn't load money onto it). But at least I didn't lose the number and could receive calls.
