Spam phone call from company offering to stop spam phone calls!!

Had a call from these jokers today - Werbesperre.

They offered a CHF50.- voucher against their yearly fee of CHF129.- to stop people like them calling me. This is not far off the old 'protection racket' where business paid the mob not to be burned down.

Anyone subscribed??

Does it at least work for CHF129/year? You must have been getting a lot of calls...

I don't know why sales calls are such a problem for some people (see other similar threads, also) - certainly not warranting any payment to try to prevent them.

When my phone rings, if the display shows a number I don't recognise (or no number) I don't answer - simple. I have an answer machine, if it's a genuine call, they can leave a message. Needless to say, no one ever does.

When the same number continually calls, I can check it out from online directory (if Swiss), just in case, but it always comes back as 'telemarketing suspected'.

So, when this number calls again, I either let it ring, or I pick the handset up, press green, then immediately followed by red.

I don't know why people have to answer the phone to non-recognised numbers, let alone talk to and be pleasant to the person on the other end (although most calls are computer generated and dialled, and only if an operator is available when the call is answered, do you actually end up talking to a person).

This reminds me of the email I got from the 'Nigerian Government' offering me a large sum as compensation for apparently being a victim of Nigerian scammers

No, but they did call me the other day.

At first I thought their call was a direct result of the last call made to me by one of those health insurance rep companies.

When the Insurance reps called, I asked them, in German, if they understood English as my German was poor. When they said yes, I said "Well, you'll understand this then - F**k Off!" and I put the phone down.

This was two weeks ago and I haven't had a call since despite getting them daily or twice daily before that.

Re: Spam phone call from company offering to stop spam phone calls!!

For any of you who have migrated to IP telephony you can block numbers calling you. You can even block complete blocks of numbers such as 05667886* from calling you.
It's actually been a little more peaceful for me since I started doing this. What would be really nice would be if Swisscom offered a package offering to block all calls from call centres. I have an asterisk in the phone directory, which by definition means I have no interest in any call from a call centre. Any business with which I have a relation (insurances, banks) can just call me from a proper phone.

Re: Spam phone call from company offering to stop spam phone calls!!

After a couple of years of 10-20 calls per day to our landline, no of which were ever answered as we use it for outgoing calls only. I finally updated the directory to add the little * for no marketing calls.

Amazingly the number of calls, which we don't answer anyway has dropped to almost none, maybe a couple per week.

.

We have the Star. It seemed to work for the first year or too and then the frequency of calls went up.

But, my direct action on the last call really does seem to have done the trick so it pays not to be polite as I was in the past.
