FREESAT: launches May 2008 can we get it here? [apparently we can]

http://www.freesat.co.uk refers.

Talk of HD transmissions and all free. But can we receive it in Switzerland?

Re: FREESAT: launches May 2008 can we get it here?

I reckon so, if its on Astra, unless they limit the footprint on 2D, and the poor people can't receive it with a small dish. I am more concerned about collecting boxes (I already have an FTA HD box), and whether the feed is compatible with embedded Disceq dish switching signals (as Sky Dig isn't).

Dave, I'm looking at this as an option to have a one box solution (The Dreambox 8000 will never be released). For those with only 2 LNBs it would mean you could run one into each tuner (I guess), an ugly solution but less ugly than having several boxes.

I'm still a novice with funky receivers, but will report back when I've read up on it more and see if it's a viable option.

Isn't this what we've all got now? i.e. hook up a satellite to a receiver and get BBC and ITV FTA channels.

Re: FREESAT: launches May 2008 can we get it here?

The problem I have is that I have four dishes on the roof, selected by disceq, and if the switch signals mess up the data stream then the only alternative I have is to get another separate dish, and I ain't doing that.

There are a handful of channels listed although most of them are running demo or preview (inc BBC HD). Those with real content are subscription.. this should change...

Channel 4, E4 and More 4 are now FTA Of course means you can get them on any SAT receiver.

Of course this may mean that they will now appear on Cablecom and Bluewin at some stage in the future.

I see no reason why Freesat should not work here.

Freesat is transmitting on Eurobird 1 at 28.5 degrees East - 0.3 degrees from Astra 2. Therefore it should be available down your normal sky dish, providing you have a FREESAT box.

Hi,

but the channels are being broadcast on Astra 2D and it is the EPG which is on Eurobird. Really what you need the Freesat box for is EPG and ITV HD.

In July there will be an Freesat HD PVR from Humax which will go on sale.

Have fun

Why the F' have you 4 dishes on the roof?

You could get away with just 1 or 2 at the most?

Have you thought of using Quattro LNB's and a Switch? Then mounting more than one LNB per dish?

I will have 13, 19 & 28 on 2 dishes (but could get away with just the one), then from these I could have upto 8 receivers/tuners (more if I bought a different switch)

I remember a few years ago the excitement when one of the geeks in the office was doing his own (!) correlations, and was convinced he had found something. You have to understand these are relevant geeks to be taken seriously, except when in social gatherings, when they should be shunned like a swiss comedian.

Re: FREESAT: launches May 2008 can we get it here?

So it looks like I will be going for a HD solution sooner rather than later . Also may be able to ditch SKY sooner rather than later.

Big issue is wasn't planning on upgrading my TV for the moment, but want to change my HD beamer for a full HD one (first on the list at the moment).

Is this service up and running now?

I assume this will work with my Dreambox (but not in HD obviously).

Re: FREESAT: launches May 2008 can we get it here?

Has anyone the frequencies for FREESAT or do you need one of their boxes. Lyngsat is not showing much at the moment. I guess you can use a free to air box and not have to buy one of their boxes. The satellite footprint http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/eb1_s1.html is better than Asta 2D, so many people should be happy!

Re: FREESAT: launches May 2008 can we get it here?

Don't have time just now, but I guess the best place to find an answer would be here:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/f...play.php?f=142

Would be great if we can get this on a 'Vanilla' box (non 'FreeSat' box i.e. a dreambox, Humux etc..)
