After the disappointment of the iPhone 6 I was really hoping Apple would return to a smaller form factor for their iPhones. The iPhone 6 (and I'm not even talking about the 6+) is just unusable as a phone due to it's size. I tried to use it for month but in the end I went back to my 4S, which, apart from not having 128GB, does everything that I want to do just well as the 6, but in a far more usable form factor.

As for the rest - meh. A truly lacklustre new product line up, with some bordering on the plain stupid - Pencil WTF.
What about the iphone5?

Same problem is also on the android side. all new flagships seem to be >5" screen size.

Re: Today's exciting news from Apple

Although expecting to dislike the larger form factor, I actually bought the 6+ and for me it is easily the best phone I have ever had, and am most pleased with.

So, just depends how you look at it. Apple's customer satisfaction surveys are off the charts good, so you are, to be honest, in a small minority.

Re: Today's exciting news from Apple

Hi,

my phone has a 6 inch screen and it is best phone I have owned with a long battery life. It means I never use a tablet, just the phone and the laptop/desktop.
My corporate phone is 4s with the absurdly small screen and the screen is much too small for me.

It will be interesting to know if the 6/6+ sales were driven mainly by Apple finally supplying a phone with a decent size screen. If that was the case it will be more difficult to sell new phones to these people as everything else is going to be small changes.

Have fun
Martin

Re: Today's exciting news from Apple

Normally, the bigger the screen, the better, except in case of iphones.

I have bigger than average hands, but even I find difficult to reach the most commonly used buttons, like the back button, options etc. Only the home button is easily reachable. This makes the iphone 6 and 6+ difficult to use with one hand. (Double tapping on home button will minimize screen, so you can reach back button, but it is really not a practical solution.)

If any one is planning to buy , I strongly suggest to use it for some time.

Also, the iphones waste so much screen place because of big bezels. So, even if the phone is big, the screen is small.

You're right that Sony does bestow its compact phones with most of the same goodies as its bigger brethren, however it is not a flagship because there can only be one and that is the Z5 premium with 4K screen (and 3GB RAM).

it will probably be designed by teams of engineers, particularly rigid and intolerant of stupid users and their stupid ways of interacting with technology (e.g. what happens if I try and unlock my phone with my nose?? Kabooom!!!!).

Its been said time and again, its not about being first. Its about doing it right.
So right means making it for people that unlock phones with their noses? I wouldn't want a phone designed for people like that. I'd prefer to be treated as a power user, thank you very much.

My wife is an early Apple adopter but she is coming around to the idea that having to do everything through iTunes is just incredibly painful.

She was amazed when on an Android phone how easy it was to open up the folder structure and just drag and drop media files from my PC on to it - without having to spend twenty minutes first working out how to do it as I would with iTunes. Sure there are work-arounds with Apple but why can't it do what I want to begin with?
Wait, you're still connecting your phone to a computer? What is this, 2012? I don't even know when was the last time I plugged a phone in my PC.

You can ask castro that I am by no means an Apple fan but I think using these quotes is just silly.

A) The Apple pencil is for the iPad pro not the iPhone. The original quote was concerning the iPhone
B) You don't need the Apple pencil to use the iPad pro. It can be used to enhance certain programs which people use. But for normal use it isn't required. If anyone used the windows mobile of old before iPhone came along then it was pretty much essential that you had a stylus

To be fair he was talking about WinCE and PalmOS devices of the day that had stylus' to allow you to hit those teeny weeny buttons.. I know because I had one.

regardless if for a phone or a pad, for Apple and non-Apple: you'll lose them (I know from my Palm Tungsten).

Re: Today's exciting news from Apple

I'd be the first to admit that Apple are guilty of massive amounts of hubris. The Apple event the other day made me cringe in a number of places, e.g. Tim Cook announcing that the iPad Pro was the biggest thing since the iPad and Schiller's broad brush statements about the new iPhone being twice as fast as the presumably now obsolete iPhone 6 (which is no sloth). I really think this format should have died with Jobs since he was the only one with the gravitas and charisma to pull it off (with a straight face).
