Is Microspot a good/reliable source for Macbooks?

I will be buying a 15" Macbook Pro soon and saw that Microspot is selling them for a few hundred francs cheaper than the "official" price. I wanted to get it from Media Markt, but they have since increased the price to what Apple is selling them for.

I have never bought anything from Microspot and considering this will be the most expensive and important purchase that I make all year, is this an okay company to use? They are not an official Apple retailer, so I am not sure if that means anything (like selling me a returned or duff computer or an older version and then not letting me return it, having poor customer service, etc.).

Digitec is also cheaper, who are official retailers, though their price is not as low as Microspot.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much.

Miscrospot is as good as they get, used to buy things from Digitec but in recent years things have gone down hill with them both on price and service level.
The good thing is you can order and go pick it up and even try in the store if you want, and if you have an issue just arrange for it to be picked up or indeed you return it.
So in summary, they are good.

Thanks. Good to know. I saw that they are connected to Coop, so there should be some reliability there.

Buying something so expensive from an unofficial source makes me nervous...like they sell them out of the back of a truck, take your money and then act like they don't know you if you have a problem.

If you read this article it confirmed that microspot is a partner of apple and their 2 year warranty validity is affirmed by apple (sorry in German only).

good luck with your purchase!

Thanks. It looks like Toppreise was missing that info.

Re: Is Microspot a good/reliable source for Macbooks?

I've bought loads from microspot from 10chf cable to a 500chf bike computer just last week. Delivery usually in 3-4 days, never an issue.

Apple will honour the warranty regardless of where you bought it, just register it when it arrives, source is irrelevant.

Re: Is Microspot a good/reliable source for Macbooks?

Some of my friends recently bought from Microspot in BERN, they got a nice 1 year old refub MBA 11 for a great price with local warranty and all their data transferred. So seems to be a good place to spend your $$$ yes..

But this article is out-of-date - 2 year warranty is a legal requirement in Switzerland, and the point was that several retailers were trying to weasel out of this especially on Apple products.

I think they've given up on that now, and in any case being an Apple partner would be irrelevant to the guarantee which is the responsibility of the seller not the manufacturer (despite what the shops try to get you to believe).

Other advantage, if you don't trust the flamin' postman to deliver to your door or just want a place to pickup, they do free and fast delivery to your local coop's customer service desk. Most effective.

Thanks for all the replies. It turns out that they are selling last year's model anyway. So hard to tell as the printed differences are subtle.

Re: Is Microspot a good/reliable source for Macbooks?

Nope, it is actually this one:

http://www.microspot.ch/msp/fr/hardw...2gb-0000890284

It is hard to see that it is not the newest (apart from Toppreise saying it is from 2014, which I did not see).

The graphics gave it away. This one indicates NVIDIA GeForce GT while the new one has AMD Radeon R9.

Besides, the price for the one above went up by CHF 150 this morning! I got the new one at MediaMarkt for CHF 2299 today. It was CHF 2349 maybe a few weeks ago, then went to Apple's price of CHF 2699 and then dropped again.

But I did buy a hard drive from Microspot.

So, all is good!

Latest one has ForceTouch.
The one from your link doesn't.

At full speed, it's apparently noisy as hell.

There are a few differences but not that obvious from the specs, unless you know exactly what to look for. They even have the same model number!

Make sure you know the delivery costs: I looked into getting a small freezer from both M-Electronics and microspot, and while M-Electronics doesn't charge for delivery and installation, Microspot charges more than CHF 200 for delivery and installation
