Sonos

Any Sonos fans out there? Media Markt has the new Play:5 for sale and I picked up two today (wanted a stereo pair). My god, the sound is amazing and the setup is "press the on button" and you are good to go.

What surprised me the most is not the new speakers, but what I did with the old Play:5 pair. I placed them in the room I use as an office, and plugged the computer to the aux in on one of them, and they still work as a stereo pair.

The room is smallish with a lot of wood and the old speakers sound amazing in this setting. Full blast Alt J, Mozart, Erykah Badu, ZZ Top, the Beatles, it all sounds crazy good.

Word of warning though: You buy one and you get hooked. I bought one Play:5 a few years back, and now have the soundbar, sub and two Play:1īs in the TV room (to get 5.1 sound), two new Play:5īs in the living room, the old Play:5īs in the office hooked up to the computer and a Play:1 in the bedroom (also functions as an alarm clock).

According to my calculations I have spent ca CHF 4000.00 in audio equipment in the last 4 years - and the guest room, kitchen and balcony are still to go.

Re: Sonos

I love Sonos too!

Started off with a pack containing (what is now branded as) the connect, connect:amp and a controller. The connect we have in the living room playing through the 7.1 amp, while the connect:amp is the bedroom.

That was followed by the Play:5, which gets used on the balcony over the summer. Then another connect:amp arrived for the kids bedroom.

It does a great job playing music I've ripped from CDs to the NAS. Also using using a SmartDNS service we are able to stream Pandora and BBC radio 5 live.

I've been playing with the idea of a Play:1 for the bathroom since it came out! As WilliamTell said, once you start with these things you can't stop!

Re: Sonos

They're brilliant, and the modularity is great so you don't have to make a huge up front investment in your audio gear.

I really like their new tuning feature too - brilliantly done.

i like the samsung egg model WAM7500/R7. not sure it is the same quality but more modern. around 400. need to choose the type now as will grow into sonos or in samsung as they don't work together..
