Which Television shall I buy ?

I want to buy a 55" Television set (haut de gamme as they say in Switzerland). Among those I consider are the Sony KDX9005C and a Samsung of the UE 9000 series . Saw the positive test results of the UE55JS9090 in a German consumer magazine but not sure whether I find the same model in Geneva. I would go for the Samsung but it is curved and I have heard rather negative comments on this feature. Would love to have some feedback from you.

Oh, and I don’t really want to by the TV from an internet shop because I have had several negative experiences with them.

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

You should have a look at FANAC, M-Electronics and MediaMarkt since you are looking for a store.

I would have a look at the LG OLED 4K (LG 55EG920V 139 cm TV 4K - OLED) while sells at M-Electronic for CHF 2999. Not sure about the FNAC price or whether it is available in MM..

The Samsung you will find all three stores will be the Samsung UE 55JS9580 (4K curved). Not sure if it is a specific CH model or not.

Can't help with the curved via flat as I have not purchased a curved model yet.

I have compared the top of the line Sony with the Samsung and the Samsung is much better in my mind - side by side comparison.

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

I think you have to get the Samsung , because most of the other companies using parts from Samsung .
Serie 9000 i quite reliable and if you want to be mounted on the wall it really easy with all Samsung devices .
And the software is quite easy to use .
Now around Christmas time there a good deals almost everywhere you can find a good one in Conforama or Fust .
Fust is a good option because I think if you are not happy with your article you can swap it for another one .

Good luck with your choice .

Curved screens like 3D are a passing fad. Get the biggest screen you can afford and 4K, then you'll be good for the next 8 to 10 years...

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

Thank you all for your feedback. That reduces my choice to Samsung and Flat Screen. I found 3 models on the Samsung site but unfortunately no detailed specifications:

(a) 55"UHD 4K Nanocrystal Flat Smart TV JU6870 Series 6,

(b) 55"UHD 4K Flat Smart TV JU 7080 Series 7,

(c) 55"Full HD Flat TV J5170 Series 5

(b) is available at Steg Computers, the other two I could not find anywhere so far. I have no idea what the difference is between the three . I want to be able to easily record films.

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

It depends how much you want to spend .
So far Samsung serie 7 is quite successful .
And if you getting something make sure is 4K .I don't know do you like 3D .

good luck .

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

If it is 4K, make sure it is HDCP 2.2 compatible otherwise some 4K content will not play due to copyright protection (Amazon Prime for example and I'm sure more in the future)

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

The salesman assured me that all new TV's 'haut de gamme' were HDCP 2.2 compatible but I could not find this in the specifications. What do I have to look for ?

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

Sony is the premium brand. Usually has more natural colours.
Samsung has more features and in sleeker looking. The colours are deeper and more prominent. Samsung also has an intriguing feature whereby you can keep 'upgrading' your TV through an upgrade kit they sell. Have not tried it personally.
LG is often a Price-Value Warrior. Will offer more for the same price.
I have a Sony and Samsung.
The only difference I could see is what I mentioned above re. colours.
And yes, Samsung TVs look sleeker.
Couple of other ideas:
You should consider buying a sound bar as the sound on flat TVs is kinda crappy.
if you can, go for a 3D tV. not because you like 3D but usually the picture quality is better.

Re: Which Television shall I buy ?

My advice would be to avoid one of the 405 line models because this technology is no longer considered, by the expert community, to be state of the art.
