That is UK. Do you think it's relevant here?

wow... 19CHF for all of europe with 3GB data?
Swisscom wants 65CHF for the same... other providers are still double - what's the catch?
There is no catch, however note, only your calls are eligible for roaming not data nor SMS (I believe). Also not all EU bundles are allowed to use the free roaming calls. This page is old as it has the old limits but according to it the free roaming includes the EU19, EU39 and Talk and Text 12.

My advice would be to email and call lycamobile CS before you use the option and make sure you get a written (email) confirmation from them in case something is lost in translation.

Also note that based on lycamobile T&Cs these offers are subject to lycamobile terminating them at anytime.

Lets be honest at the rates lycamobile is offering does anyone really expect any customer service, I personally don't. The bundles Lycamobile is offering is simply sans CS. Think of lycamobile as the EasyJet or Ryanair of the mobile industry!

You can have cheap products with basic decent customer service. Lyca service looks abysmal even by cheap standards. The price is indeed great, but people should always go into things with their eyes open.

Agreed fully!! Having said that, when I got in touch with lycamobile CH, they were always very helpful and more then accommodating for what my needs were. They even put some extra credit onto the account at one point of time for my "troubles".

there is a reason RyanAir is a great success.
The last time I needed the customer service of Swisscom was.... errr... once in the last 4 yrs. And as there seems to be no lock-in I can just leave, can't I?

No there is no lock-in with their contracts, they are 30 days and I believe its a 30 day notice if you want to leave and migrate your number to another provider and if its a news number and you decide you don't want to use it and don't care about the number (one is testing the service) then just don't topup and it will be disabled in 6 months.

so.... I'll port the number to Lyca and it'll be great. If it won't, then I'll go on. :-) Does Lyca have a post-paid option as well or am I overlooking something?

BTW the Yallo Post-Abo is now just 19CHF for the first 6 months, then 29CHF, with a minimum contract time of 12 months, which gets the payment down to 24CHF per month....

No, they do not have a post paid option, but you can have your credit card details on the online system or put enough money on the account and the account will auto renew your monthly tariff until you stop it.

FYI: They used to have a special on porting your number ie if you move your number you are eligible for the 10CHF bonus ever month for the first 3 months, but I cant find that option on their site any more. Worth asking the CS when you call them to transfer your number if that is still the case!

If you decide to get the Sim card, you might as well get it from interdiscount, they sell the cards for 19CHF with a 20CHF credit on the sim, then all you need to do to move your number is to fill-in the document in the package and mail/fax to lycamobile.

Re: Salt Christmas offer, 29/month, all unlimited

Today being the last day of the Salt 50% deal, I called Sunrise to announce my intent to switch, and they sent me to the retention dept. The retention rep asked me the details of the Salt deal, and said, wow, that's a big deal. He then proceeded to explain that Salt is doing the same thing they did in France and Austria (or maybe it was another firm, not sure it was actually Salt), where they undercut everyone else in the business and cost 100s of jobs (his words). He said Sunrise isn't in the business of being a discount provider, but he would be able to offer 30.- off my current plan for the next 12 months. That would be 35.-/mo for Unlimited everything, while avoiding the 24m contract and other possible number porting woes.

So I agreed. I really haven't had any major complaints with Sunrise, other than their industry standard poor customer service. Their coverage is good and getting better, and they offer good roaming packages and MobileID for logging into EFinance etc (where oh where is ApplePay?)

So you get a smaller discount for less time with Sunrise?

I get a slightly smaller discount while staying with a provider that's never given me an issue for ten years, with proven 3G/4G coverage, month to month contract, unlimited data, Mobile ID support, shared tablet data SIM and no need to learn the ins and outs of a new provider. I think that's better than jumping into the unknown with a two year contract, don't you? In any case, the rep told me I was getting a 30.- per month discount so presumably the next tier down would be the exact same price as Salt albeit with 1GB vs 3GB. Salt still wins on price but little else.

Calls, sms/mms and data unlimited for 29.- month, 12 or 24 months subscription. I believe it is a good deal, considering unlimited internet.
Check the small print. There's been a few 'unlimited data' offers appearing in the last year and many of them include the caveat that the first Gb or so are 3/4G after which they'll throttle you. Given this, unless you're downloading videos all day, you'll probably not even notice if they do - I found that on 'reduced' speed apps that for example employed VoIP (e.g. Skype, WhatsApp) still worked fine.

Their reception even in built up residential and commercial areas is sub par.
(not as bad as Sunrise I should add)
Personally I've found Sunrise has somewhat better coverage than Salt, which is atrocious in many areas. Ultimately it probably depends most on where you live.

Swisscom will tend to have better coverage, in particular in the Banjo territories of cantons like Graubünden. This quality gap does appear to be closing and it'll eventually force Swisscom to become more competitive.

Hold your horses. Mid-2017 the EU is canceling roaming, so it's probably going to be *massively cheaper* after that with all providers.
Now it's a race to the bottom for the providers, with an increasingly longer lock-in time.

What may be cheap tomorrow, might be very expensive 7 months into the contract (when you still have almost 2.5 yrs to pay).

CH is not EU, so there will always be an excuse on both sides. Nonetheless, the prices they will need to buy on minutes and megabytes in Europe will massively drop, so if they want to retain the user base, they will have to adjust. Germany already has '10 euro subscriptions' with unlimited voice and data and calling home from the whole of EU.

As always with Telecom... there is only one way prices could go.

Take a look at UPC Cablecom. All their customers contribute to a free WiFi network across Switzerland. Good prices too, mobile phone calling is on the Salt-Orange network. (In the very olden days Cablecom customer service was rubbish, but with UPC management this is no longer true)

http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/bundle...Faofwwod9y8G0Q
We could not get away from these Guys fast enough (upc) for TV, www & mobile. Worst service providers We ever had.

I strongly recommend giving upc cablecom a wide berth.
