Suggestion on laptops to buy !

Dear All,

Planning to buy a laptop for personal use.

Purpose: Watching movies, hearing songs , doing MS office work, rarely video/photo editing & playing games.

Suggest which one would be a better option .

1. https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...222?tagIds=614

2. https://www.fust.ch/de/p/pc-tablet-h...k-8193696.html

3. http://www.melectronics.ch/p/de/HP_E.../798111500000/

Any other options, would be helpful.

Kindly suggest. Thanks in advance.

Regards
Vishal

I would never buy a laptop without a SSD. So Yoga it is. You would probably have to think of an external storage solution, but those are cheap.

You need to state a maximum budget.

If you want something smaller and more portable then it doesn't get much better bang for buck than the ASUS GL552VW-CN114T https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...440?tagIds=614

While build quality isn't the best on the market, it has a strong CPU of the latest generation, an IPS screen, a backlit keyboard and also a very good graphics card (Nvidia 960M) that will handle games at 1080p with high details. Much stronger overall (disregarding build quality) than the other options you listed and it should give you enough power for a long time. It's what I would consider buying with your requirements, and it would be easy to add an SSD later without affecting your warranty (just keep the old hard drive safe).

Lack of SSD isn't an issue, they are very easy to add yourself even if you are not very experienced with computers.

Both displays are crap.
Full HD display on 15"?

Spend a bit more money and you can get a MacBook Pro 13" or a Dell XPS 13 (if you prefer Windows).
They have far-far-far superior displays.
Is 400 bucks really worth ruining the eyes?

1080p is the optimal resolution on a 15" IPS screen. 13" with a higher resolution is worse for your eyes as not all apps scale properly and your eyes will strain even more.

Not to mention, the graphics cards in those two laptops you suggested are very weak and not really good enough for casual gaming.

Not on OS X ;-)
There, (almost) everything scales.

First Retina Macbook Pro was released in June 2012...

i guess it is partly a matter of personal preference. i have a friend who gets 15.6" screen with 1366x768 resolution because he wants everything big to reduce eye strain.

personally, i like 1080p on 13.3" and for 15" i would go for something like QHD for the extra real estate.

however, if you're the kind of person who will anyway scale up the desktop to make everything bigger, then it may not make sense to go for a higher resolution display.

also it depends what you use it for. if it is mainly for games and videos, it doesn't really matter.

i tend to deal with lots of and lots of small text and so i want to be able to display as much of it as possible as clearly as possible.

Probably I'm old fashioned, but I'm still perfectly fine with 1080p on a 24" monitor.

typically, a laptop screen may be positioned about halfway between where a monitor screen might be placed. therefore, you'd expect to scale the resolution appropriately e.g. for a 24" monitor twice the distance away would be the same as a 12" laptop screen at 1080p.

Well, I don't have a 4K display either.
2560x1600 on a 30" screen + 1920x1200 on a 24" screen.
My (ancient) laptop has 1440x1050 - but it's from 2004-ish, also 15".
It cost around 1200 Euros back then.
Can't believe people are settling for less resolution twelve years later.

That doesn't change the fact that a 13" macbook pro is not going to fit all of the usage scenarios or budget limitations he described, which doesn't necessarily make it an ideal recommendation.

Well, he doesn't need to heed my advice. Or be of the same opinion.
It's a free country, after all ;-)

If his time is worth nothing, these are probably all nice laptops (for certain definitions of "nice"...).

Co-worker has an Asus notebook, too. Not the cheapest. The audio-out port (or HDMI or whatever) is lose - he would have to send it in (which he doesn't want to - go figure).
So, he's thinking of getting a PC to play videos on his TV (because audio out doesn't work with his laptop any more).

Bought it less than a year ago.

It's not about being a free country, he listed a specific set of requirements, and as contributors it's our goal to find something that suits all of his needs, right?
