Swisscom Internet Box vs Internet Box Plus

Any major differences on offer between these two. I see that with the plus, you can plug in a hard drive and use it as a NAS.

The plus has a screen on it, the standard not.

Not sure if both create any noise or run with fan?

Does anyone here know much about this?

The Internet-Box plus has a fanless design. It emits no noise whatsoever. It would surprise me if the Internet-Box standard was different.

The wireless part should be equivalent across devices.

Re: Swisscom Internet Box vs Internet Box Plus

Not really. The standard has no NAS facility, the plus has one.

Speaking to Swisscom yesterday, they told me that the plus will soon be discontinued and the standard is the slightly newer product. Not sure what to make of it all.

Re: Swisscom Internet Box vs Internet Box Plus

I've had 2 Internet Box Plus' go wonky on me in the last 18 months. Perhaps the inclusion of the NAS functionality overheats the device.

It never seems overly warm and I don't put anything on top of it, or around it.

Same experience here. They replaced the box twice, then I stopped plugging the disc in and the 3rd one is running since 3 (is it that long now?) years (it was a plain jane USB disk).

If you want a nas buy a synology or such.

Re: Swisscom Internet Box vs Internet Box Plus

Hmm, not sure what to go for.

With the plus, I could just plug in my exisiting external hard drive and use it as a NAS, and use the VPN functions (never have used this before but sounds ok).

With the standard, would all be a bit more simple perhaps, and less likely to fail.

If you really want a NAS, then the SC box isn't a very good solution. It is ok for a simple central storage role. I have a pair of Synology boxes with RAID5, I run VMs on them, and you can use Couchpotato and such for downloading.
