I am starting to freak out...

I finally bought a phone last week after having it installed a few months ago for TV and internet. I figured that since I was paying for it, I'd be aswell use it.

So last week I got home from work and had a missed call from +390237009680. Its a number from Milan. I had been there the weekend before and figured I must have left something at my hotel. The number has since rang most days during the week in the afternoon.

If I ring the number, I get a message about it not existing. Then I found this website

So seems others are getting the same.

The first thing to pop into my head was that its one of those groups that monitor if you are in your house, or more importantly not. So they know how likely it is that you're in when they go to rob your house!!

Thinking I was going a bit crazy, I told my boyfriend about the number, but not what I thought it was. And he thought the exact same thing.

So now I am really freaking out.

So what I would like to ask is, is this common in Switzerland? And is there any way of barring the number (I havent checked my phone instructions yet to see I can do it that way) via Swisscom?

I'd appreciate any advice that stops this happening, and calms me down.

Just after I added a post here, I got another phone call from this number and I was able to answer it. It is the direct marketing of organic farmers in a valley of northern Italy (I have forgotten which one). They are selling oganic food from their own production like olive oil, pasta and other Italian specialities. The lady on the phone was polite but as I claimed to eat out in Restaurants only, we came to a quick end.

I've also received phone calls from them. Very polite lady trying to sell olive oil and proscuitto. I told her that we can buy all that stuff here in Zurich and that she needn't call any more - and she hasn't.

Getting these and a few others of this calls too,despite the 'asteriks' in the directory,anyhoo as a matter of fact we don't pick up any calls from numbers withheld or foreign numbers,as these are most likely sales pitches or worse.........

Ppl who know us, know that I can not pick up a phone and either text,fax or email......

I usually just lift the speaker of the phone and put it back again without saying anything,after a few times this stops the calls.

I have the same problem with a random number (prefix 033) but when I answer the call I just hear intermittent beeps.....not sure of the exact number but will look it up tonight and update tomorrow. Bloody annoying though when it wakes me up on a Saturday morning!!!

Intermittent beeps could be a fax machine...

That was my initial reaction but it doesn't sound quite the same.....hard to describe but sounds more like the tone to indicate the beginning of a voicemail. The only difference is it keeps beeping!!
