Cablecom - renewing cable modems

I got a letter yesterday to inform me that Cablecom will be sending me a new modem in the coming days or weeks.

Now I am on the 15000/1500 deal at the moment and feel no need to go to 25000/2500.....but I am assuming that we are going to see a new range of services over this device in the near future?

I assume we might be seeing some better speeds (Wikipedia reference-linkDOCSIS) of 50 MBit/s or beyond in the next six months.

Anyone got insider info on this?

Cablecom have been upgrading networks recently to increase network capacity - I got a letter advising my area was underway. This increases the hybrid fibre-coax network from 600 MHz to 862 MHz bandwidth in my area.

An increase in bandwidth provides for an increase in possible services, and a possible re-arrangement of existing services.

Your modem swapout may be due to the upgrade work - depends on your area.

With Swisscoms stated intentions of FTTH over the next 5 years, one might expect Cablecom to endeavour to remain competitive over this timeframe....

Re: Cablecom - renewing cable modems

I got my new modem about a month ago, and it has been running quite smoothly since. I believe my speeds are a smidge faster, and I definitely don't get as much evening bottlenecks as I used to.

No letter on this so far. How long did you own your existing modem / line at present location before the upgrade letter?
