I will reply, stating that if the house has no cablecom connection, then I will cut off and remove the large black cable that is trespassing in my cellar, as it obviously isn't Cablecom's cable..
That would be epic....just save all your correspondence with them.

We will move house at the end of September, and so we start with phone/TV/internet fun.

The house we bought has a large black cable in the cellar, which then provides all four houses in our group with Cablecom TV. The cable enters our house and connects all four houses in a daisy-chain fashion. As it was done in the 1980's. So, great, we have Cablecom access.

We phone up Cablecom and enquire about moving house. "You don't have cablecom and must pay 2000CHF for a new connection" was the first reply. After calling them again, stating that I am in the cellar looking at their cable, they admit we might have a connection. Third call to them confirms that we do have cablecom. Great!
It sounds that there may be two different people or departments at Cablecom looking at your problem and/or inaccurate Cablecom records.

You really ought to phone again and ask to speak to a manager and explain what has happened.

Some staff at Cablecom are spot-on with their knowledge and can-do attitude but others are useless.

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

This just means your house had a Cablecom connection long ago. There are two questions. a) Is Cablecom willing to update this stuff for free and b) do you need Cablecom at all.

If you have the cable and want to use Cablecom you still have to pay 28 CHF a month or so. So, for you it's the question: Do I want Cablecom with its services at all or do we use Swisscom for TV/Internet and so on from the beginning.

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Just arrived back in the country after spending 3-months stateside, to find that my Sunrise ADSL is really, really slow.

Before leaving Switzerland, it ran at 10 mbps down/1 mbps up. Now, it's running at 0.2 mbps down/0.9 mbps up. As you can see, the upload is about right, but the download speed is 2% of what it should be.

Any ideas about why this might be?

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Hi there,

I'm moving to Switzeland in rent flat, in Aargau and I d like to joint to Cablecom with service Fiber Power Internet 10 (39 CHF/month) without any Telephony service.
I already checked it and it s available

On the bottom the page , there is a note where they said :
"about the tax 27.40 CHF/month , this is usually included on the rent."

What is this tax ? is the Billag ? or swisscom tax ?

thanks guys

Neither. It's the fee to provide the cablecom connection to your flat. It's often included in your rent (the "Nebenkosten" or bills part).

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

We moved recently and I signed up with Cablecom. I hadn't received a bill for almost 4 months so I was starting to wonder. So the other day I finally get an email from them telling me that my bill is not deliverable and to check my billing address on their website. I checked both my service and billing address, all was correct. Basically every address that I could see or enter on the website, was correct. However, when I decided to actually look at the pdf of the bill, it had a four year old address on it. The last time we had Cablecom, we had it at that address. Nothing was available online to change that address, and whichever database it was coming from.

So I called them and they had no idea why they were using that address. I thought it would be logical, when you sign up for new service at a new address, that they would send the bill to where the new service was being provided. But, of course, logic doesn't apply.

I hope others have a better experience. Typically, if you have no issues, you think their customer service is great, because you've never had to use it. They do seem better than four years ago though.

They also said they will remove the Mahnung charge. If they actually do it, I will be satisfied.

Dan

There are actually some cases where it would make sense not to bill to the address where you have the installation, i.e. you are getting the service installed at your holiday house in the mountains where you will only be spending weekends. In that case it could be preferable to have the bills sent to your other home.

But in this case it sounds like cablecom dropped the ball, good luck getting it resolved.

Does anybody have some experience with VTX's Fiber-to-the-Home offer?
I'm considering them vs Swisscom, but I know nobody who uses their service...

I vote for Cablecom. I am with Cablecom for the last 4 years and never hat any connection issues. The service might not have been the best, but I feel that after the takeover by UPC that part improved quite a bit.

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

verify your contract for the 27.40 chf
they said nothing about this to me, and when I pointed out that I only wanted internet, they, after sending me the contract and the cancel period was over, said that this was mandatory since I then could receive their basic pack of TV (which I didn't ask for).

I eventually after 6 months arguing switched to Swisscom, pay more and aren't that much happier

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Cablecom has recently increased their internet speed. For me the increase was from 50mbps to 75mbps, for only 2chf/month more.

What I didn't like was that I wasn't notified, can they begin charging more without even asking? I mean, I would have done it anyway, but I found it strange that no one told me.

that's a little bit strange, you could ask them. But, anyway, I don't find the internet providers and their services, here in Switzerland very... let's say.. friendly

Same here, price went up a bit and the speed increase. No notice given but maybe it was buried in a previous bill. I'm not so annoyed but I've been here long enough that I'm getting like everyone else, shrug your shoulders and just give in....

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Anyone using or used the company below for internet/TV/Phone/MobilePhone:

Quickline

https://www.quickline.com/privatkunden/home.html

Our local provider FGA use this company for the internet, TV & phone:

http://www.fgaffoltern.ch/

I use VDSL from Swisscom but no chance of anything faster from them (get around 15/1Mb out of a possible 20/2mb).

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

I'm thinking of switching back to Cablecom but was wondering how stable it is now in terms of outages as I need it as I work from home occasionally. I remember there being some outages once or twice over weekends but it wasn't terrible. I still have a cable connection so that isn't an issue so I don't need to reconnect or anything just get the broadband package.

With Swisscom there have also been outages but less in my experience but as I only have internet with them I think Cablecom seems to offer better value for money as I can get almost twice the speed for the same price if I take Fibre 75 (plus FTH seems a few year away still). Do you get the upload speeds that are advertised from cablecom?

Also does anyone know if cablecom is planning a speed increase soon as I see upc ireland (which is the same company and setup as far as I'm aware) increased the speed this week so they now only offer 120 and 200 (but they have a usage cap as far as I'm aware so it's not 100% the same).

http://siliconrepublic.com/comms/ite...tandard-with-1

Ideally Fibre 35 would be upgraded to 75 speed level for the same price as this would be an even better deal of course but I assume when you pcik one package you can only upgrade it not downgrade it (i.e go from 35 to 75 not the other way around for the first 12 months?)

What happens if they increase the speed in a months time will I be automatically upgraded?

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Cablecom had a big outage our way in early August for some hours - including TV and phone. But has been no problem since or for a couple of years before.

Speed is usually up to the mark - or beyond. Only thing is you'll be hard pressed to notice the difference between 150 and 75Mb/s !!
