Check out Boingo ( www.boingo.com) - they now offer their (relatively) low-priced WiFi hotspot access for the iPhone as well. The app's available in the App store.
For those who have a small data allowance, the app could be a money saver as it allows you to surf on a huge number of hotspots in Switzerland and around the world for about 8$ per month. Switzerland has a massive number of supported hotspots (more than Germany, for example). In Basel alone, there are 60 Boingo hotspots, including some whole-area zones like the Clarastrasse.

i cannot see how it is a killer app at all. it is just a clever way of compressing image data.

You didn't think about the potential of this way of viewing images? Imagine if this was combined with google earth or maps??

you are right, if it can make zooming in to things like google earth a smoother experience then it will be very cool. i think my perception of an app is something direct and which can be used directly... like the facebook app. i can see the worth of seadragon, but only when combined into a variety of apps.

Especially if I can work out how to format flickr feeds to use with this. If anybody can shed some light on this that that would be awesome.

Haven't got this to work yet, I take it only works on wireless networks...
Still, looking through the settings, there's an option to add RSS feeds, all the photo sets, and your photostream, have RSS feeds in Flickr. It's a bit of a pain to type in, but seadragon seemed to recognise the feed.

Has anyone tried any of the apps regarding learning german? I've got a couple of the free ones,lastminute.com german and the language translator by codesign. There are some ok podcast- Flavor of German and Stephan Wiesner learn german for free. I'm now ready to shell out a few CHF and was wonder if any one could recommend a app they are using. Thanks.

Jailbroke using quickpwn 2.2 the other day, in order to install an app I decided I couldn't do without:
Intelliscreen (USD9, I think) - turns the unlock screen into a "today" round up, similar to Windows mobile (the ONLY thing I miss since switching from WM6). Highly configurable to include calendar appointments, weather, RSS feeds etc.
Also installed Cycorder (free, requires jailbreak), which turns the iphones static camera into a video camera, with surprsingly reasonable quality.
Quickpwn jailbreak 2.2 is reasonably straightforward if you unload the iphone's applications first and then reinstall them via sync after jailbreak. It doesn't seem to work otherwise, if you have a lot of apps.

For me, it is one of the most fluent and well designed apps of the iphone... and it is specifically for zurich public transport!!!
Brilliant.

Just got the SwissSnow app, comprehensive breakdown of snow reports at all Swiss resorts, even the small ones.
Seems to have every possible stat related to snow possible, and has a favourites function too, to quickly access your local ones.
